John B. Yeon
Jean Baptiste Yeon (also known as John B. Yeon) (24 April 1865 – 15 October 1928) was a Canada West-born, timber magnate who was a prominent citizen of Portland, Oregon, United States. Yeon was one of the principal financiers of the Columbia River Highway. The John B. Yeon State Scenic Corridor was named for him, as was Yeon Avenue, which carries U.S. Route 30 through the Northwest Industrial neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. He financed the construction of the 1911 Yeon Building in downtown Portland,Harrisburg's Big Day, ''The Eugene Guard'' 05 June 1926, p.4 and supervised the construction of the Vista House at Crown Point in 1918. Canada West
The Province of Canada (or the United Province of Canada or the United Canadas) was a British colony in North America from 1841 to 1867. Its formation reflected recommendations made by John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, in the Report on the Affairs of British North America following the Rebellions of 1837–1838. Historic Columbia River Highway
The Historic Columbia River Highway is an approximately scenic highway in the U.S. state of Oregon between Troutdale and The Dalles, built through the Columbia River Gorge between 1913 and 1922. As the first planned scenic roadway in the United States, it has been recognized in numerous ways, including being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, being designated as a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, being designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and being considered a "destination unto itself" as an All-American Road by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Northwest Industrial, Portland, Oregon
Northwest Industrial Area is an almost entirely industrial neighborhood in the Northwest section of Portland. According to the Portland Bureau of Planning, it "is one of the few remaining large urban industrial districts in the United States" and "one of the premier heavy industrial districts in the Pacific Northwest". Yeon Building
The Yeon Building is a historic , 15-story office building completed in 1911 in downtown Portland, Oregon. Almost completely clad in glazed terra-cotta, and culminating in a colonnade on the top floors, the Yeon Building once was illuminated at night by light sockets built into the cornices, but later removed. The building's namesake is Jean Baptiste Yeon (1865–1928), a self-made timber tycoon who financed the construction. At the time of completion, the Yeon Building was the tallest building in Oregon and it remained so for nearly two years. In 1994, the Yeon Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Vista House
Vista House is a museum at Crown Point (Oregon), Crown Point in Multnomah County, Oregon, that also serves as a memorial to Oregon Trail, Oregon pioneers and as a Comfort station (rest), comfort station for travelers on the Historic Columbia River Highway. The site, situated on a rocky promontory, is above the Columbia River on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge. The octagonal stone building was designed by Edgar M. Crown Point (also known historically as Thor's Heights or Thor's Crown) is a basalt promontory on the Columbia River Gorge and an associated state park in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located in eastern Multnomah County, approximately east of Portland.
