John B. McNair
John Babbitt McNair (November 20, 1889 – June 14, 1968) was the 23rd premier of New Brunswick from 1940 to 1952. He worked as a lawyer, politician and judge. Born in Andover, New Brunswick, he graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1911 with a B.A. degree. Awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, at Oxford University he earned a B.A. in 1913 and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1914, graduating with first-class honours. At the onset of World War I he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served on the battlefields of France and Belgium. Captain McNair served again during World War II as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery Reserves. The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The current political organization emerged in the 1880s to serve as an organization housing the supporters of Premier Andrew G. Blair and, later, federal Liberal Party of Canada leader Wilfrid Laurier. Today, the New Brunswick Liberal Party follows the centre-left tradition. Perth-Andover (2016 population: 1,590) is a village in Victoria County, New Brunswick, Canada. Geography The village is divided by the Saint John River with Perth on the east bank and Andover on the west bank; each was a separate community until municipal amalgamation in 1966. Perth-Andover's population meets the requirements for "town" status under the provincial Municipalities Act; however, it has not applied to change from village designation. Frederick William Pirie (February 1, 1893 – October 3, 1956) was an industrialist and political figure in New Brunswick.
