John Aston Jr.
John Aston Jr. (born 28 June 1947) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Manchester United, Luton Town, Mansfield Town and Blackburn Rovers. Aston was a forward who rose through the Manchester United youth system. His debut for the club came in 1965 against Leicester City. He went on to help the club win the 1967 League championship as well as the 1968 European Cup, where he provided a man of the match performance in the final against Benfica at Wembley Stadium on 29 May 1968. Aston scored 27 goals in 187 appearances before leaving the club in 1972 for Luton Town, later playing for Mansfield Town and Blackburn Rovers. His father, John Aston Sr., also played for Manchester United in the immediate post-Second World War years, and was a coach at United during his son's playing career. Glossop is a market town in the Borough of High Peak, Derbyshire, England. It is located east of Manchester, north-west of Sheffield and north of the county town, Matlock. Glossop lies near Derbyshire's borders with Cheshire, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. It is between above sea level and is bounded by the Peak District National Park to the south, east and north. 1968 Intercontinental Cup
The 1968 Intercontinental Cup was an association football tie held over two legs in 1968 between the winners of the 1967–68 European Cup, Manchester United, and Estudiantes de La Plata, winners of the 1968 Copa Libertadores. The first leg was held on 25 September 1968 at the '' Estadio Boca Juniors'', as Estudiantes' ground was deemed unsuitable. Nevertheless, Estudiantes won the first leg 1–0, the winning goal awarded to Marcos Conigliaro in the 27th minute. Old Trafford hosted the return leg three weeks later on 16 October 1968. The match finished up as a 1–1 draw, granting Estudiantes their first Intercontinental Cup title. Juan Ramón Verón opened the scoring in the 6th minute, but Willie Morgan equalised in the 90th minute. The European/South American Cup, more commonly known as the Intercontinental Cup and from 1980 to 2004 as the Toyota European/South American Cup (abbreviated as Toyota Cup) for sponsorship reasons, was an international football competition endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America), contested between representative clubs from these confederations (representatives of most developed continents in the football world), usually the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the South American Copa Libertadores. 1967 FA Charity Shield
The 1967 FA Charity Shield was the 45th FA Charity Shield, an annual football match held between the winners of the previous season's Football League and FA Cup competitions. The match was contested by Manchester United, who had won the 1966–67 Football League, and Tottenham Hotspur, who had won the 1966–67 FA Cup, at Old Trafford, Manchester, on 12 August 1967. The match was drawn 3–3, which meant that the two clubs shared the Shield, holding it for six months each. Bobby Charlton scored two goals for United, while Denis Law scored their third. Jimmy Robertson and Frank Saul scored for Spurs, but the match is most famous for Tottenham's second goal, which was scored by goalkeeper Pat Jennings.
