Leominster was a United Kingdom constituencies, parliamentary constituency represented until 1707 in the House of Commons of England, then until 1801 in that of House of Commons of Great Britain, Great Britain, and finally until 2010, when it disappeared in boundary changes, in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1295 to 1885, Leominster was a parliamentary borough which until 1868 elected two Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Members of Parliament by the Plurality-at-large voting, bloc vote system of election. Under the Reform Act 1867 its representation was reduced to one Member, elected by the first past the post system. The parliamentary borough was abolished under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, and the name was transferred to a new county constituency. John Aston Sr
John Aston (3 September 1921 – 31 July 2003) was an English footballer. Like his son John Aston Jr., Prestwich-born Aston came through the Manchester United youth system and turned professional in December 1939. His debut for the club came almost seven years later, on 18 September 1946, against Chelsea. Aston was a strong, tough-tackling left-back who also played as a centre forward for his club on occasion. He won 17 England caps between 1948 and 1950, all at left-back, and featured in the 1950 FIFA World Cup. He played in the 1948 FA Cup Final triumph over Blackpool at Wembley Stadium. He was forced into retirement in 1954 after contracting tuberculosis, having scored 30 goals in 284 appearances for Manchester United. Because of the tuberculosis, he had to have a lung removed; he was offered treatment in Switzerland or North Wales, and chose the latter due to its proximity to home and family. John Dastin
John Dastin (c.1293 – c.1386) was an English alchemist of the fourteenth century. Little is known of his life beyond the texts which are attributed to him (A biographical notice ''De vita, aetate ac scripsis Johannis Dastin'' is found in a 17th-century manuscript: Ms Oxford, Bold. Libr., Ashmol. 1445, VIII, fol. 53). Dastin is known for correspondence with Pope John XXII and Cardinal Napoleone Orsini in defense of alchemical practice, dated to 1320. Work attributed to Dastin was included in the 1625 ''Harmoniae imperscrutabilis Chymico-Philosophicae'' of Hermannus Condeesyanus, the 1629 ''Fasciculus Chemicus'' of Arthur Dee, and the 1652 ''Theatrum Chemicum Britannicum'' of Elias Ashmole. John Aston or Ashton (fl. 1382), was one of John Wycliffe's earliest followers. Life Aston is described as M.A. and 'scholar' (or, once, 'bachelor') in theology at Oxford, and, according to Anthony à Wood, was a member of Merton College. He appears first to have been engaged as one of Wycliffe's band of itinerant priests, and by the year 1382 had become conspicuous for his advocacy of his master's views, particularly of those relating to the sacrament of the Lord's supper. Sir John Alexander David Aston is a British statistician, Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) at the Home Office (2018–2020), and Professor of Statistics, Statistical Laboratory, University of Cambridge. From 2021 he is the Harding Professor of Statistics in Public Life. And from July 2021 he has also served as a non-executive director on the board of the UK Statistics Authority. Aston earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in statistics from Imperial College London and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He was an academic at the University of Warwick and at Academia Sinica in Taiwan, before becoming a professor at the University of Cambridge.
