John Arthur (cricketer)
John Lake Allen Arthur (7 April 1847 – 26 April 1877) was a first-class cricketer who played for Tasmania from 1866 to 1875. He was an opening batsman and a roundarm bowler, which was the more common form of bowling at the time. Arthur represented Tasmania in three first-class matches, and a single game for a Rest of Australia side in 1872/73. Despite not normally playing as a wicket-keeper and never taking a single first-class catch, he effected one stumping keeping wicket in his first first-class match. In the same match in 1868–69 he captained the Tasmanian side, although the match was lost and Tasmania were bowled out for just 18 in the first innings. He was invited to take part in the Australians' 1878 tour of England, but two days after receiving the letter of invitation he died suddenly in his hometown of Longford Longford () is the county town of County Longford in Ireland. John Arthur (Australian Politician)
John Andrew Arthur (15 August 1875 – 9 December 1914) was an Australian lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and was first elected to federal parliament at the 1913 federal election, after a successful career at the Victorian Bar. After the 1914 election, he was appointed Minister for External Affairs in the Fisher Government. He died of kidney disease three months later, aged 39. Early life Arthur was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, son of a goldminer and spent his childhood in several Victorian goldmining towns. He won a state scholarship allowing him to attend Grenville College, Ballarat for three years. He graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts in 1895. John Arthur was a Ghanaian politician. He served as minister of state and a member of parliament during the first republic. He was a regional commissioner (Regional Minister) for the Western Region and a member of parliament for the Sekondi electoral district. Early life and education Arthur was born on 4 February 1915 at Anomabo in the Central Region of Ghana (then Gold Coast). He was educated at the Anomabo Wesleyan School where he obtained his Standard 7 Certificate. John William Arthur (1881, Glasgow – 1952, Edinburgh) was a medical missionary and Church of Scotland minister who served in British East Africa (Kenya) from 1907 to 1937. He was known simply as ''Doctor Arthur'' to generations of Africans. Early life and education in Scotland John William Arthur was the son of John W. Arthur, a Glasgow businessman of firm evangelical Christian convictions. Arthur wanted to be a missionary from an early age. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.)
