John Allan (Australian Politician)
John Allan (27 March 1866 – 22 February 1936) was an Australian politician who served as the 29th Premier of Victoria. He was born near Lancefield, where his father was a farmer of Scottish origin, and educated at state schools. He took up wheat and dairy farming at Wyuna and was director of a butter factory at Kyabram. In 1892 he married Annie Stewart, with whom he had six children. Northern Victoria was a centre of the movement of militant small farmers who founded first the Victorian Farmers Union (VFU) and later the Country Party as an outlet for their grievances. In 1917 Allan was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as VFU member for Rodney, a district centred on Echuca. In 1919 he became a founding member of the Country Party and its first parliamentary leader, and was a member of its Victorian Central Council. William Dunstone
William Dunstone (27 October 1877 – 12 April 1944) was an Australian politician. He was born in Newstead to farmer James Dunstone and Elizabeth Jane Winn. He grew up around Seymour, where he attended state schools and worked on his father's farm. In 1908 he married Victoria Elizabeth Greer, with whom he had a son. Dunstone acquired his own farm at Wanurp, and served on Rochester Shire Council from 1920 to 1942, with two terms as president (1923–24, 1933–34). A founding member of the Country Party, he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Rodney in 1936. Hugh McKenzie (Australian Politician)
Hugh McKenzie (13 December 1853 – 4 August 1942) was an Australian politician. He was born in Sutherlandshire to station manager John McKenzie and Elizabeth Clark, but migrated to Victoria as a child around 1857. He attended Scotch College and became a station overseer at Kyabram. From 1874 he ran a store at Undera. On 15 January 1878 he married Margaret Jane Mitchell, with whom he had four children. He became a successful businessman, partnering with John Chanter in a stock and station agency and from 1894 running his own Echuca-based firm. From 1882 to 1924 he served on Echuca Borough Council, with two terms as mayor from 1886 to 1887 and from 1903 to 1904. In 1904 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Rodney. Electoral District Of Rodney
The Electoral district of Rodney was a Victorian Legislative Assembly electorate in Northern Victoria. The Rodney District covered an area of 7,808 square kilometres, including the towns of Echuca, Rochester, Nathalia, Cohuna, Heathcote, Gunbower, Kyabram, Rushworth and Stanhope. At inception in 1856, the district boundaries include the Murray River and Goulburn River in the north and east; and the Campaspe River in the west. By 1956 the district had expanded further westward to include Cohuna. In 2014, it was abolished and became part of the electoral district of Murray Plains. Aileen Rose Dent (1890 – 30 March 1978) was an Australian artist known for her portraits, specifically her portrait of Australian aviator Jean Burns. Biography Dent was born in 1890 in Deniliquin, New South Wales. From 1909 to 1916 she was a student at the National Gallery Art School in Melbourne. Dent exhibited regularly at the Atheneum Gallery and was a finalist in the Archibald Prize many times. Her paintings were included in the exhibit ''Australian Women Artists, One Hundred Years 1840 - 1940''. The National Gallery of Australia owns Dent's portrait of Dame Elizabeth Couchman. Sir Stanley Seymour Argyle KBE, MRCS, LRCP (4 December 1867 – 23 November 1940), was an Australian radiologist and politician. He served as premier of Victoria from 1932 to 1935 and was the state leader of the Nationalist Party and United Australia Party from 1930 until his death in 1940. Early life Argyle was born in Kyneton, Colony of Victoria in 1867 to Edward Argyle, a grazier from England, and Mary Clark. He was educated at the Kyneton School, Hawthorn Grammar School, and Brighton Grammar School before attending Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated in medicine.
