John Alexander (actor)
John Alexander (November 29, 1897 – July 13, 1982) was an American stage, film, and television actor. Early life He was born on November 29, 1897, in Newport, Kentucky. His father owned steamboats and his mother was a telegraph operator. Career He had a career spanning more than 55 years on Broadway with his first role as the title character in ''Elmer Brown, the Only Boy in Town'' in 1908/1909. He is best remembered for his performance as Teddy Brewster, a lunatic who thinks he is Theodore Roosevelt, in the 1944 classic film '' Arsenic and Old Lace'' opposite Cary Grant. He had previously portrayed that role in the 1941 Broadway play of the same name on which the film was based. He went on to play the "real" Roosevelt in the 1950 Bob Hope comedy '' Fancy Pants'' and reprised his role as Teddy "Roosevelt" Brewster in the 1955 TV adaptation of ''Arsenic and Old Lace'' in the anthology series '' The Best of Broadway''. He is widely recognised for his eccentric clothing, wild hair, and his production of several cutting edge drum and bass tracks. John Henry Alexander
John Henry Alexander (June 26, 1812 – March 2, 1867) was an American scientist, civil engineer and businessman. Personal life Alexander was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on June 26, 1812. The youngest child of William and Mary (Harwood Stockett) Alexander. His education was acquired in his native city, he was graduated from St. John's College in 1826, and he spent the next four years reading law privately, but apparently he did not take the bar exam. He, instead, chose to begin working for the Baltimore and Susquehanna Railroad, later part of the Northern Central. Alexander also attended medical lectures in Baltimore, though he did not receive a degree in Medicine. Alexander married Margaret Hammer on June 4, 1836, in Baltimore. They had at least two sons, the second one born in Baltimore in October 1838. John Alexander (footballer, Born 1985)
John David Alexander (born 24 September 1985) is an English footballer who made four appearances in the Football League playing as a forward for Darlington in the 2000s. While still at Darlington, he had loan spells at Northern Premier League club Bishop Auckland, and went on to play non-league football in the north-east of England for a number of clubs, mostly in the Northern League. He also played American college soccer for the Stetson Hatters. John Alexander (born 5 October 1955) is an English former footballer who holds the post of club secretary at Manchester United. Born in Liverpool, Alexander began his football career with a club called Ulysses, before being picked up by Millwall, for whom he made his league debut in 1976. After scoring twice in 15 appearances over the course of two years with Millwall, he moved to Reading; he enjoyed greater success with Reading, scoring nine goals in 25 games. In 1981, he joined Northampton Town, but spent just one season with them before retiring from football at the age of 26 in 1982. Upon retiring from football, Alexander got a job with the BBC, but he later returned to football as club secretary at Watford. In 2000, he took up the same post at Tottenham Hotspur, spending ten years there before applying for the same job at Manchester United, where he would replace the retiring Ken Ramsden. John Gilbert Alexander (born 4 July 1951), nicknamed JA, is an Australian former professional tennis player, sports broadcaster, and federal politician. As a tennis player, Alexander reached a career-high singles rank of no. 8 in the world in 1975. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open singles on three occasions, and won the doubles in 1975 and 1982. He also played in the Australian team that won the 1977 Davis Cup. After the end of his playing career, Alexander worked as a tennis commentator and managed various sports-related businesses. John Wesley Alexander (born November 12, 1955) is an American former professional football defensive end who played two seasons with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Dolphins in the 11th round of the 1977 NFL draft after playing college football at Rutgers. John Alexander (2 September 1833 – 10 September 1908) was an Irish Anglican priest who served as Dean of Ferns from 1899 until his death in 1908. Alexander was born and raised in the parish in Ferns, County Wexford, the son of John Alexander, LL.D, and Mary Molony. His father was rector of Carne and was rumoured to be in consideration for the Dean of Ferns in 1862. The family was of Scottish descent and descended from the Alexanders of Menstrie. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and ordained in 1858. John Alexander (30 September 1686 – 1 November 1743) was an Irish Presbyterian minister. Life He was a native of Ulster, but connected with the Scottish noble family of the Alexanders, earls of Stirling, being the grandson of the first earl. He was educated at Glasgow, and settled in England. Wilson identifies him with the John Alexander who was a pupil of Isaac Noble and Congregationalist minister at Gloucester 1712–18. He was Presbyterian minister at Stratford-on-Avon, where he educated students for the ministry. He afterwards moved to Dublin, where he was installed minister of Plunket Street Presbyterian congregation on 15 November 1730. He was moderator of the General Synod of Ulster, 1734, and died in Dublin on 1 November 1743 and was buried there. His family moved to Birmingham.
