John Alexander (Australian Politician)
John Gilbert Alexander (born 4 July 1951), nicknamed JA, is an Australian former professional tennis player, sports broadcaster, and federal politician. As a tennis player, Alexander reached a career-high singles rank of no. 8 in the world in 1975. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open singles on three occasions, and won the doubles in 1975 and 1982. He also played in the Australian team that won the 1977 Davis Cup. After the end of his playing career, Alexander worked as a tennis commentator and managed various sports-related businesses. He was a commentator for Seven Sport, the host broadcaster of the Australian Open, for more than two decades, from the late 1980s until the early 2010s, becoming the main play-by-play commentator for men's singles prime time matches in the new millennium, alongside John McEnroe and from 2005 Jim Courier. James Spencer Courier (born August 17, 1970) is an American former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the List of ATP number 1 ranked singles players, world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 58 weeks, including as the year-end No. 1 in 1992 ATP Tour, 1992. Courier won 23 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including four Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, majors – two at the French Open and two at the Australian Open – and was the youngest man in the Open Era to reach the final of all four singles majors, aged 22 years and 11 months. Peter Landy (born 1943) is an Australian television presenter. Career Beginning his career in the early 1960s—after attending the Jesuit Xavier College—he started with Radio 3UL, Warragul, co-ordinating horse racing and football broadcasts. He later moved to 3UZ Melbourne, where he reported and presented the news. In 1967, he moved to 3AK and also began with TV station Channel 9. ''Gladiators'' is an Australian television series which aired on Saturday nights on the Seven Network from 29 April 1995 until 12 October 1996 almost consecutively for eighteen months. It was based on the popular Gladiators (franchise), franchise of the same name, which started with ''American Gladiators (1989 TV series), American Gladiators'' in 1989. However the Australian show was more heavily based on the Gladiators (1992 British TV series), British version of the 1990s with events, format and even music being used from that show.
