John Aielli
John Aielli (1946 − July 17, 2022) was a radio personality known for his long-running show Eklektikos on Austin's public radio station KUT/KUTX. Eklektikos debuted in 1970 and became a staple of Austin's airwaves. Known for its freeform, unpredictable style, the program featured a wide mix of music genres. Aielli, a classically trained baritone, was a top fundraiser for the public radio station and was known for hosting the station's annual holiday singalong at the Capitol. Early life John Aielli was born in Cincinnati in 1946. His parents met in a USO in Belton, Texas, and were jazz musicians. His father, a pianist, was in the Army during World War II, and his mother, who sang in a jazz band, was a telephone operator. KUTX
KUTX (98.9 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed to Leander, Texas and serving the greater Austin, Texas area with an adult album alternative format. The station is owned by University of Texas at Austin with headquarters at the Belo Center for New Media (A0704) on the University of Texas at Austin campus. History 98.9 signed on in 1988 on 99.1 MHz as KLTD, "Kool 99 FM" with the Satellite Music Network's " Kool Gold" format by Adams Broadcasting, which eventually spun off the Kool Gold format to Dial Global. On July 3, 1993, KLTD changed calls to KUTZ and format to hard rock as part of the Satellite Music Network- Z Rock Network. KLRU
KLRU (channel 18), branded Austin PBS, is a PBS member television station in Austin, Texas, United States, owned by the Capital of Texas Public Telecommunications Council. In 2022, KLRU moved into its "Austin Media Center" studios located on the Austin Community College Highland Campus, which was redeveloped from the former Highland Mall. KLRU occupies in what was previously the mall's Dillard's department store. The station's transmitter is located in the West Austin Antenna Farm in unincorporated Travis County. In addition to airing program content from PBS, it produces original programming including the national music series ''Austin City Limits''. KLRU was founded in 1979 as a full-time satellite of San Antonio PBS member KLRN.
