Johannes Siegfried Finkel (1947) is a German born Swiss master bowmaker or bogenmacher. Biography Johannes Siegfried Finkel was born in Markneukirchen in 1947 to Siegfried Finkel and Hanna Weidhaas. In 1952, he and his family moved to Schwanden, Switzerland. Siegfried Finkel
Siegfried Finkel (1927-2010) was a German born Swiss master bowmaker or bogenmacher. Biography Siegfried Finkel was born in Koningsberg in 1927. After WWII, he came to Markneukirchen to learn bow-making and apprenticed with Paul Weidhaas, who soon became his father-in-law. After completing his apprenticeship became Weidhaas's associate. Siegfried also met Weidhaas's daughter Hanna, fell in love, and married. Their son Johannes Siegfried Finkel was born in 1947. In 1952, Siegfried moved to Schwanden, Switzerland where he joined Brienz Bogen AG, which had been co-founded by Adolf König and Carl Willy Hoyer in 1947. After Hoyer’s passing in 1955, Siegfried took over the firm, renaming it ‘ Brienz Bogenwerkstätte AG’, which he managed very successfully until his retirement in 1984. Paul Weidhaas
Paul Weidhaas (1894–1962) was a German Master bowmaker or ''bogenmacher''. Biography Paul Weidhaas learned bow making from his father Ewald Weidhaas, in Markneukirchen. He then worked for E. Liebich in Breslau from 1911 to 1913 and then for Winterling in Hamburg 1913-1915. He took his master's examination (in bow making) in Hamburg in 1918. He returned to Markneukirchen and took over managing his father's shop. Between 1920-1930, to deepen his knowledge in bow making and networking he travelled to Holland where he worked for Max Möller, Vedral and J. J & A Beare
J & A Beare (John & Arthur Beare) is a violin dealership and repair shop in central London founded in 1892. While in earliest incarnations, it constructed new instruments, it came over time primarily to focus on older ones. Primarily a family business throughout its history, it included outside partners at its inception and in 1998 merged with another long established violin dealer, Morris & Smith, who now run the business following the resignation of Charles Beare in 2012. History John Beare (1847-1928) founded his shop in 1865. According to an 1898 book, he had soon gained "practically a monopoly of the old violin business in the provinces", being both knowledgeable and a skilled performer.
