''Mineviku varjud'' (Shadows of the Past) is an Estonian historical drama film from 1924. It was Estonia's first full-length feature film. The film has not survived. Plot In Estonia conquered by the Livonian Order, the rural people are stubbornly defending their freedom. The brave Uno escapes from captivity to his tribesmen. At the request of his parents and encouraged by the shaman of Taara, the young military chieftain Kaljo has just stepped before the people, when the peaceful people are attacked by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. Kaljo's fiancée Laine and Uno fall into the hands of the knights. Kaljo's sister Virve sneaks into the enemy's camp and frees Uno, who joins the Estonian fighters. A battle for life and death lies ahead. ''Jüri Rumm'' is an Estonian feature-length film made in 1929 based on Hans Varessoo's 1908 novel of the same name. The film was directed by Johannes Loop. Plot The film depicts the legendary adventures of the Estonian itinerant, thief, and robber Rummu Jüri, who became famous among people in Estonia in the 1880s. The story begins with the corporal punishment meted out to the manor's valet Jüri, which the proud and independent young man does not forgive the gentlemen for. The honor of his beloved Madli is also at stake at the manor, and in order to save her Jüri must risk imprisonment. However, as a skilled and daring man, he remains elusive. The story of the young lovers is intertwined with risky swindles at the expense of the gentry. Like an Estonian Robin Hood, Jüri takes revenge for the injustice done to the peasantry. ''Vigased pruudid'' (The Faulty Brides) is an Estonian feature-length comedy film made in 1929 based on Eduard Vilde's story of the same name. The film was directed by Johannes Loop and Konstantin Märska. A few minutes of excerpts from the film have been preserved. Background and history ''Vigased prudid'' was the first film based on an Estonian literary work and also the second feature film by the director Konstantin Märska. In the summer of 1928, Märska returned to his homeland from Berlin with years of experience in film work. On February 11, 1929, the newspaper wrote about the intention of the Film-Klub (a club of film enthusiasts founded in 1924) to make a film based on Vilde's story. The writer's consent had been obtained and the club members had learned some things, but, as usual, the financial situation created difficulties.
