Johannes Larsen
Johannes Larsen (27 December 1867 – 20 December 1961) was a Danish nature painter. Biography Larsen was born in Kerteminde on Funen, Denmark. He was the son of Jeppe Andreas L. and Vilhelmine Christine Bless. His father was a merchant. Larsen studied art at the Free School in Copenhagen under Kristian Zahrtmann (1843–1917) in the 1880s. There he met other painters from Funen, notably Fritz Syberg (1862–1939) and Peter Marius Hansen (1868-1928), both from the southern port of Faaborg, and the Funish Painters group (''Fynboerne'') was born. They went on to create an art colony that influenced many Danish and Swedish artists and brought them success. In 1898, he was married to the painter Alhed Maria Warberg (1872–1927). Between 1901-02, the artist couple built their home on Møllebakken in Kerteminde. Christine Swane
Christine Swane née Christine Larsen (29 May 1876 in Kerteminde – 16 August 1960 in Farum) was a Danish painter who first associated with the Funen Painters before developing her own increasingly Cubist style. Biography Christine Swane was the sister of Johannes Larsen, one of the key members of the Funen Painters (''Fynboerne''), with whom she associated while young. She adopted their Naturalistic approach and strong use of colour as evidenced by her early flower paintings. After studying at the Danish Academy (1898–1901) under Viggo Johansen, she was instructed by Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, Fritz Syberg and Harald Giersing. Around 1910, she met Karl Isakson and Sigurd Swane who introduced her to contemporary French art. Her marriage with Swane ended in 1920 when they were divorced. Odense ( , , ) is the third largest city in Denmark (behind Copenhagen and Aarhus) and the largest city on the island of Funen. Funen's Art Museum
Funen's Art Museum (Danish: ''Fyns Kunstmuseum''), formerly The Museum of Funen's Abbey and Museum Civitatis Othiniensis, founded in 1885, is an art museum in Odense, Denmark. Funen's Art Museum operated as a part of the Odense City Museums (''Odense Bys Museer''). History Fyns Kunstmuseum is housed in a stately neo-classical building built in 1883–84 with Emil Schwanenflügel (1847-1921) as supervising architect. The building has a characteristic temple gable and a decorated frieze with scenes from Denmark's history and Norse mythology. The museum was founded as a mini version of Nationalgalleriets (later the Statens Museum for Kunst) and holds a wide range of works by important Danish artists. The older section contains amongst other things principal works by Jens Juel, Dankvart Dreyer, P.S. Krøyer and H. A. Brendekilde.
