Johanne Christine Petersen
Johanne Christine Petersen often simply known as Johanne Petersen (23 September 1847 – 24 March 1922) was a Danish school principal. She is remembered for her pioneering work with handicapped children. From 1874, she was associated with Hjemmet for Vanfore (Home for the Handicapped), later known as Samfundet og Hjemmet for Vanføre (Society and Home for the Handicapped), serving as head from 1886 to 1922. Initially opened for one-armed girls, the institution was extended to accommodate boys from 1878. Over the years the institution was significantly expanded. Petersen was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in 1897. Medal Of Merit (Denmark)
The Medal of Merit () is the oldest extant award medal presented by the Kingdom of Denmark. Established by Christian VII on 16 May 1792, and re-instituted by ordinance of Christian VIII on 24 July 1845, it is a personal award of the Sovereign. Appearance The medal, depending on the version, is made of either gold or silver. The obverse bears the effigy, in profile, of The Queen and the inscription, ''Margareta II – Regina Daniæ''. The reverse bears the single word ''Fortient'', surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. Recipient’s name is engraved on the edge of the medal. This indicates that it is the personal property of the recipient, and is not returned upon death, like the badges of some orders of chivalry. () is a large site in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark, owned by the Danish Deaconess Community and used for various social and healthcare-related activities, including a home for the elderly and training of nurses. History Diakonissestiftelsen was founded in 1866 at the initiative of Crown Princess Louise, consort of the later king Christian IX. She instigated Louise Conring to make a study trip to Sweden, where the order had been active for ten years, and to Germany where pastor Theodor Fliedner had opened the first Deaconess motherhouse in 1836 in Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth in 1836. Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen (born Anne Marie Brodersen; 21 June 1863 – 21 February 1945) was a Danish Sculpture, sculptor. Her preferred themes were domestic animals and people, with an intense, naturalistic portrayal of movements and sentiments. She also depicted themes from Nordic mythology. She was "one of the first women to be taken seriously as a sculptor," a trend-setter in Danish art for most of her life. She was married to the Danish composer Carl Nielsen. Early life Brodersen was born on Thygesminde, a large farm estate in South Stenderup, near Kolding. Her father Povl Julius Brodersen served in the German Confederation, German Dragoons before purchasing the farm. He married Friderikke Johanne Kirstine Gilling, who was his housekeeper.
