Joel Bennathan
Sir Joel Nathan Bennathan KC (born 15 July 1961), styled Mr Justice Bennathan, is a British High Court judge. Biography Educated at Bristol Grammar School, Bennathan went up to Queen Mary College becoming the first lawyer in his family. After being called to the Bar in 1985 at the Middle Temple, he took silk (QC) in 2006. Before becoming a Judge, Bennathan worked in Doughty Street Chambers. Bennathan worked as a defence barrister, specialising in criminal law up until his appointment undertaking a number of high profile cases. Appointed a Recorder in 2009 to the South Eastern Circuit, Bennathan is a Visiting Lecturer in Law at London South Bank University. In January 2019 Bennathan was shortlisted for the 'Crime Silk of The Year' award. In December 2021, Queen Elizabeth II approved his appointment as a Justice of the High Court. A justice of the High Court, commonly known as a High Court judge, is a judge of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales, and represents the third-highest Judiciary of England and Wales, level of judge in the courts of England and Wales. King's Bench Division
The King's Bench Division (or Queen's Bench Division when the monarch is female) of the High Court of Justice deals with a wide range of common law cases and has supervisory responsibility over certain lower courts. It hears appeals on points of law from magistrates' courts and from the Crown Court. These are known as appeals by way of case stated, since the questions of law are considered solely on the basis of the facts found and stated by the authority under review. Specialised courts of the King's Bench Division include the Administrative Court, Technology and Construction Court, Commercial Court, and the Admiralty Court. Knights Bachelor
The title of Knight Bachelor is the basic rank granted to a man who has been knighted by the monarch but not inducted as a member of one of the organised orders of chivalry; it is a part of the British honours system. Knights Bachelor are the most ancient sort of British knight (the rank existed during the 13th-century reign of King Henry III), but Knights Bachelor rank below knights of chivalric orders. A man who is knighted is formally addressed as " Sir irst Name urname or "Sir irst Name and his wife as " Lady urname. The designation "Bachelor" in this context conveys the concept of "junior in rank". Murders Of Albert Alfonso And Paul Longworth
In the late hours of 10 July 2024, two suitcases containing human remains were found on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, in the South West of England. The suitcases were found by bystanders who stopped a man acting suspiciously. A manhunt soon ensued, with police searching for one person in connection with the remains. The person was identified as Colombian national Yostin Andres Mosquera. Police arrested him on 13 July 2024 at Bristol Temple Meads railway station. It was soon discovered that the murders were commited in London where police found victims' missing body parts. In July 2025 at Woolwich Crown Court, Mosquera was convicted for the double murder.
