Joe Mullaney (actor)
Joe Mullaney (born 1962) is a Scottish actor, possibly best known for his role as Ronnie Witherspoon in the 1985 comedy-crime film ''Restless Natives''. Joe Mullaney was born in Glasgow in 1962. In 1980, while still attending John Bosco Secondary School, he became one of the presenters on ''Asking Around'', a youth programme examining the questions, answers, pressures, problems and challenges that young Scots face in the 1980s. He was subsequently chosen to act, alongside his schoolmate, Paul Ferry, for a role in the BBC Scotland drama series ''Maggie'', which aired on BBC Two from 1981 until 1982. In 1985, he appeared in a starring role as Ronnie in the comedy film ''Restless Natives'', directed by Michael Hoffman. He is also known for his appearances in television shows during the 1980s, including ''Taggart'', ''Take The High Road'' and ''Play for Today''. Restless Natives
''Restless Natives'' is a 1985 Scottish adventure comedy film, directed by Michael Hoffman. Plot The story follows the adventures of two Scottish youths from the Wester Hailes district of Edinburgh, played by Vincent Friell and Joe Mullaney, who, in rebellion to their drab lives in urban Scotland in the mid-1980s, become modern highwaymen. Donning masks of a clown and a wolf-man and riding a Suzuki GP 125 motorbike, they waylay and hold up with a toy gun tourist coaches in the Highlands, but in the process becoming a tourist attraction themselves. Having acquired substantial amounts of money, they proceed to become modern-day Rob Roys, doling it out to the poor of their city by scattering it on bike rides through its streets, attracting national media attention and pursuit by the police. Doctor Finlay
''Doctor Finlay'' is a British television series based on A. J. Cronin's stories about the fictional medical hero, Dr. Finlay. It was first broadcast on 5 March 1993 on ITV. It is a follow-up to ''Dr. Finlay's Casebook'', the successful BBC series and takes place in the 1940s after John Finlay returns from war service. Early storylines include the setting up of the new National Health Service and the modernisation of the medical practice at Arden House, Tannochbrae, Scotland. William Campbell Rough Bryden (12 April 1942 – 5 January 2022) was a Scottish stage and film director and screenwriter. Early life and career He worked as a trainee with Scottish Television before becoming assistant director at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, in 1965. He then worked as a director at the Royal Court Theatre (1967–1971), the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh (1972–1975), Associate Director at the National Theatre (1975–1985); and as a visiting director in Glasgow and New York. In 1990, he directed Leoš Janáček's ''The Cunning Little Vixen'', at the Royal Opera House. He was Head of Television Drama at BBC Scotland (1984-1993) and has also done other work for film and television, as screenwriter, director and executive producer. Govan ( ; Cumbric: ''Gwovan''; Scots language, Scots: ''Gouan''; Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile a' Ghobhainn'') is a district, parish, and former burgh now part of southwest Glasgow, Scotland. John Bosco Secondary School
John Bosco Secondary School was a Catholic Secondary School in the Oatlands area of Glasgow in Scotland. Named in honour of John Bosco, it was located at Wolseley Street, close to Richmond Park. The campus was designed by architect John Morton Cochrane of Honeyman, Jack & Robertson Architectural Practice. The design and build incorporated the building of the former St. Bonaventure's Junior Secondary School. It was commissioned by The Corporation of Glasgow Education Department and was officially opened on 12 November 1974 by the Archbishop of Glasgow, Thomas Winning. The school had a catchment area of south-eastern Glasgow: Oatlands, the Gorbals, Hutchesontown, Govanhill and Toryglen. Due to changes in demographics, the pupil numbers dropped over a number of years. By 1996 there were only about 300 pupils at the school, from an original roll of 1000. ''Taggart'' is a Scottish detective fiction television programme created by Glenn Chandler, who wrote many of the episodes, and made by STV Studios for the ITV network. It originally ran as the miniseries ''Killer'' from 6 until 20 September 1983, before a full series was commissioned that ran from 2 July 1985 until 7 November 2010.
