Joe McCabe (hurler)
Joseph McCabe (31 March 1919 – 2 January 2019) was an Irish hurler who played for Laois Senior Championship club Clonad and at inter-county level with the Laois senior hurling team. He was usually deployed as a goalkeeper, but also played as a forward. Playing career Clonad McCabe was first selected for the Clonad junior hurling team in 1934. After losing the Laois Junior Championship final to Derrydavey, he was soon added to the Clonad senior hurling team. On 15 March 1936, McCabe won his first Laois Senior Championship medal after a 7–03 to 1–05 defeat of Rathdowney in the delayed 1935 final. After surrendering their championship title the following year, McCabe won a second Laois Senior Championship medal when Clonad defeated Abbeyleix by 2–07 to 2–01 in the final. Clonad GAA
Clonad GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in County Laois, Ireland which fields teams from Under-10 right up to adult level. While Clonad GAA club has successfully fielded underage and adult Gaelic football teams in the past, football is not played in the club at present. These days, club members interested in football usually play with the neighbouring football clubs at The Heath and Ballyroan. The club colours are green with a gold sash. History Although it is known that a GAA club existed in the area in the late 19th century and that the nearby Barrington estate was a patron of a hurling team in the 18th century, the present club was founded in 1915 by Lar Brady and Jim Bergin to promote hurling in the country area to the south of Portlaoise. Kyle GAA
Kyle GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. Located near Ballaghmore on the County Laois-County Tipperary border, the club colours are blue and white. History Kyle won its only Laois Senior Hurling Championship title in 1951. They were in the 1994 Laois Junior Hurling Championship Final. County Laois ( ; gle, Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. The 1934 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the seventh staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. Tipperary entered the championship as the defending champions. On 2 September 1934 Tipperary won the championship following a 4-3 to 3-5 defeat of Laois in the All-Ireland final. Errill GAA
Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Errill in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds on the Roscrea Road are called Pairc Eireil. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Rathdowney and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Errill club has twice won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, (1938 and 1952) and won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1981. It also won the Laois U-21 B Hurling Championship in 1997. Although football would be very much a secondary sport in the area, there has been some success with wins in the Laois Junior C Football Championship in 2000 and 2016 and the Laois Junior B Football Championship in 2017 and 2019.
