Joe Marston Medal
The Joe Marston Medal is an A-League Men award given to the player of the match in the A-League Men Grand Final each year. Introduced in 1990, previously the award was also given to the best player in the National Soccer League grand final. The medal is named after Joe Marston, who played for Australia national association football team in the 1950s and was a member of the Preston North End side that played in the 1954 FA Cup final. A-League Men, also known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons, is a professional Association football, soccer league in Australia and New Zealand and the highest level of the Australian soccer league system. Established in 2004 as the A-League by the Football Australia, Australian Soccer Association (ASA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL), competition commenced in August 2005. Administered by Australian Professional Leagues (APL), it is contested by thirteen teams; eleven based in Australia with two in New Zealand. Alex Tobin
Alexander Hugh Tobin (born 3 November 1965) is an Australian former professional soccer player who played as a centre-back. He is the fifth-most capped player for the Australia national team with 87 'A' appearances, including 30 as captain. He made his international debut on 9 March 1988 in an Olympic qualifying match against Chinese Taipei (3–2) in Adelaide. Club career Tobin spent his entire club career playing in Australia. He played most of his club career as a defender with Adelaide City in the National Soccer League. Alex left Adelaide City in 2000, after sixteen years with the club, to join Parramatta Power. Brisbane Strikers Football Club is an Australian semi-professional football club based in Brisbane, Queensland. Andrew Marth
Andrew Marth (born 10 February 1969) is a retired Australian soccer player who played 380 times in the National Soccer League (NSL) over 15 years for Sunshine George Cross, Melbourne Knights and Carlton SC. He also represented Australia men's national soccer team, Australia 16 times. 1996 A-League Grand Final
The 1996 National Soccer League Grand Final was the first grand final to be held under the A-League name after the short-lived rebranding of the National Soccer League (NSL) began before the 1995–96 season. Melbourne Knights defeated Marconi-Fairfield 2–1 to win their second consecutive grand final. Steve Horvat
Steven Horvat (born 14 March 1971) is an Australian former professional soccer player. Club career A graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport, Horvat began his career with Melbourne Croatia. He later played with Sunshine George Cross, North Geelong Warriors, the Melbourne Knights (for whom he won the Joe Marston Medal), Hajduk Split, Crystal Palace (although he didn't make a league appearance) and Carlton. He retired in March 2003 at the age of 32. Horvat made a total of 96 appearances in the National Soccer League.
