Joe Langtry
Joseph Ignatius Langtry (2 September 1880 – 30 April 1951) was an Australian politician. Born in Kyabram, Victoria, he received a primary education before becoming a teamster. He moved to Barellan in New South Wales and became a wheatfarmer and publican. In 1940, he was the Labor candidate for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Riverina; he was successful in this, defeating Country Party member Horace Nock. He held the seat until 1949, when he was defeated by Country candidate Hugh Roberton. The Division of Riverina () is an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian electoral division in the states and territories of Australia, state of New South Wales. It is located in southwest New South Wales and includes the city of Wagga Wagga. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. ''The West Wyalong Advocate'' is a weekly, English language newspaper published in West Wyalong, New South Wales, Australia. It has previously been titled ''The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette''. History The paper began in 1900 as ''The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette'' was published by George R. Porter. This publication ceased in February 1928 and became ''The West Wyalong Advocate'' which it remains today. It also absorbed '' The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser'' at this time. In more recent times, drought and economic downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the paper changing from bi-weekly to weekly production. In 2020 the paper was offered for sale when the Bradley family of nearby Temora but a buyer was not found. Horace Nock
Horace Keyworth Nock (26 October 1879 – 2 August 1958) was an Australian politician, farmer and company director. Early years and background He was born at Salisbury, South Australia to Joseph Nock and his second wife Eliza, née Keyworth. Nock attended Tarlee State School and Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, and joined his father's store and wheat buying business, which he ran from his father's death in 1904 until 1914, when he relocated to a grazing property, Nelungaloo, near Parkes, New South Wales. Here, he established a prosperous mixed farm. He was president of the Farmers and Settlers' Association of New South Wales from 1928 to 1932, and was treasurer from 1938 to 1958.
