Joseph Jenkins (diarist)
Joseph Jenkins (27 February 1818 – 26 September 1898), was an educated tenant farmer from Tregaron, Ceredigion, mid-Wales who, when aged over 50, suddenly deserted his home and large family to seek his fortune in Australia. The ''Australian Dictionary of Biography'' says that "Jenkins's noteworthiness stemmed from the rich documentation of his experiences and thoughts that has survived". He was a consistent Personal journal, diarist for 58 years of his life and an award-winning poet, under the bardic name of Amnon II. He achieved fame posthumously from publication of some excerpts of his Australian writings. Joseph Jenkins (2 November 1859 – 27 April 1929) was a Calvinistic Methodists, Calvinistic Methodist preacher, known as a progenitor of the 1904-1905 Welsh revival, a Christian revival in which, the BBC says, "a hundred thousand people had made a new commitment." A strong personality, Jenkins affected many church communities as a preacher, his contemporaries saying he resembled a volcano — "sometimes lifeless and sometimes in full eruption." Background and childhood Jenkins was born to Mary and John Jenkins on 2 November 1859. John was a miner at the local Cwmystwyth Mines, Cwmystwyth lead mine, where the life expectancy for miners was just 32 years, due to the toxic effects of Lead poisoning, lead exposure. Jenkins trained to be a draper in his youth, taking an apprenticeship to John Lloyd, in Pentre, Rhondda. Joseph John Jenkins
Joseph John Jenkins (1811 – 9 March 1885) was a British engraver and watercolor painter. He is best known for his portraits and landscapes paintings. Life Joseph Jenkins was born in London in 1811. He was the son of an engraver, who trained him as an engraver. He later abandoned engraving for watercolor painting, focusing on domestic subjects and landscapes. In 1842, Jenkins was elected an associate of the New Water Colour Society and became a member in 1843. He exhibited fifty-seven drawings at their exhibitions in Pall Mall. In 1847 he left, and joined the Old Watercolour Society; he was elected an associate in 1849, and a full member in 1850. He was its secretary for ten years, from 13 February 1854, and first introduced special private views of its exhibitions for members of the press. Joseph Willcox Jenkins
Joseph Willcox Jenkins (15 February 1928 – 31 January 2014) was an American composer, professor of music, and musician. During his military service in the Korean War, he became the first arranger for the United States Army Chorus. He ended his teaching career as Professor Emeritus at the Mary Pappert School of Music, Duquesne University, where he had been a professor since 1961, and composed over 200 works. Early life and military service By the age of six, Jenkins had already begun piano lessons; soon afterward, he started composing small pieces in elementary school. In high school, he wrote numerous arrangements as well as some original works for orchestra. Joe Jenkins (baseball)
Joseph Daniel Jenkins (October 12, 1890 – June 21, 1974) was an American right-handed Major League Baseball catcher who played for the St. Louis Browns in 1914 and the Chicago White Sox in 1917 and 1919. Jenkins was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee, and made his major league debut on April 30, 1914. He played 19 games with the Browns that year, hitting .125 in 32 at-bats. In 1917, with the White Sox, Jenkins hit .111 in nine at-bats. In 1919, his final season, he hit .158 in 19 at-bats. He played his final game on September 27 of that year. Jenkins did not appear in either the 1917 or 1919 World Series for the White Sox. Overall, Jenkins played three seasons in the big leagues, hitting .133 in 40 games (60 at-bats). He had two doubles, one triple, and three RBI. Though his big league career was over after 1919, Jenkins toiled in the minor leagues until 1930, when he was 39 years old. Joe Jenkins (born 13 October 2003) is an Anglo-Welsh professional rugby union footballer who plays as a centre for Bristol Bears. Early life Born in Halifax, Jenkins was brought up near Chepstow and attended Monmouth School for Boys, where he served as deputy head boy. He played rugby union at Hereford RFC from under-nine to under-16 level and also represented Newport Schools. Club career He signed a professional contract with Bristol Bears in June 2022.
