Joe Frazer Smith
Joe Frazer Smith (March 25, 1897 – April 13, 1957) was an American architect and author. Early life Joe Frazer Smith was born on March 25, 1897, in Canton, Mississippi. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1921. Career Smith became an architect in Memphis, Tennessee in 1922. With Herbert Burnham, he designed the mansion of the president of Rhodes College in Memphis in 1926. He designed Castle Crest in Jackson, Mississippi in 1929–1930, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1938, he designed Dixie Homes, public housing for African Americans in Memphis. Smith authored a book about historic mansions in the Southeastern United States. It was published as ''White Pillars: Early Life and Architecture of the Lower Mississippi Valley Country'' and later retitled ''Plantation Houses and Mansions of the Old South''. Canton, Mississippi
Canton is a city in Madison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 13,189 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Madison County, and situated in the northern part of the metropolitan area surrounding the state capital, Jackson. Much of Canton is on the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse square is a historic shopping district and host to the Canton Flea Market. The picturesque Georgian courthouse is particularly notable and often appears in photographic exhibits of the South. The east side of town is a large part of the historic district with many homes. Although not a major battle site during the Civil War, Canton was important as a rail and logistics center. East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana
East Feliciana Parish (french: Paroisse de Feliciana Est, es, Parroquia de East Feliciana) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2010 census, the population was 20,267, and 19,531 in 2020. The parish seat is Clinton. Established when Feliciana Parish was divided in 1824, both East and West Feliciana parishes are part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. They are also considered part of the Florida Parishes, at one time part of Spain's West Florida colony. History The parish was part of Feliciana Parish, which was founded and named in 1810 by Spaniards who then controlled the territory. West Feliciana Parish (French: ''Paroisse de Feliciana Ouest''; Spanish: ''Parroquia de West Feliciana'') is a civil parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2010 census, the population was 15,625, and 15,310 at the 2020 census. The parish seat is St. Francisville. The parish was established in 1824. In 1824 Feliciana Parish was divided into East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish, in recognition of the increases in population throughout the parish. West Feliciana Parish is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. The River Bend Nuclear Generating Station, operated by Entergy Nuclear, is located in West Feliciana Parish below St. Francisville.
