Joe Frans (curler)
Joseph Mark Frans (born July 1, 1975 in Grimsby, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Guelph, Ontario. Frans is most notable for being a two-time provincial champion and for being suspended from competitive curling for cocaine usage. Career Frans obtained fame as a curler in 1991, when he won the provincial school boys championship and the provincial junior mixed championship while curling in Smiths Falls, Ontario. In 1993, Frans won the provincial junior championship while playing in St. Catharines, Ontario. At the 1993 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team would finish with a 6-5 record. In 1994, while a grade 13 student at St. Catharines' Merritton High School, Frans would win a second straight provincial championship, this time with a rink from Bradford, Ontario. Grimsby is a town on Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada. Grimsby is at the eastern end of the Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton List of census metropolitan areas and agglomerations in Canada, Census Metropolitan Area. Canada Cup (curling)
The Canada Cup (branded as the Home Hardware Canada Cup for sponsorship reasons, and also referred to as the Canada Cup of Curling) was a major men's and women's curling championship in Canada, held from 2003 to 2019. It was organized by Curling Canada and was one of its major events on its "Season of Champions". The event was frequently used as a qualifier for various other events, such as the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, Pre-Trials and Continental Cup. The 2010 Ontario Men's Curling Championship was held February 1-7th, 2010 at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee. Eleven teams participated. It marked the first year that the defending champion (Glenn Howard's rink) would get an automatic berth. Career Corner was a member of the 1993 "dream team" of his cousin Wayne Middaugh and the brothers of Glenn and Russ Howard. Corner played lead for the team. All four players would skip teams to provincial championships in the future. In 1993, the team won the Brier and World Championship. Corner played in his first national championships at the 1987 Canadian Junior Curling Championships playing third for Middaugh. The team lost in the final to New Brunswick's Jim Sullivan. Corner joined forces with the Howards in 1990, and qualified for their first Brier in 1991. However, at the 1991 Labatt Brier, the team missed the playoffs with a 6-5 record.
