BoDeans
BoDeans is an American rock band formed in Waukesha, Wisconsin who came to prominence in the 1980s. The band's sound encompasses multiple rock genres, including roots rock, heartland rock, and alternative rock. The band's biggest hit to date is " Closer to Free", which was used as the theme song to the hit TV series '' Party of Five''. The band has been described as "one of the most successful, and best known, bands to come out of the Milwaukee area". Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Slash Records
Slash Records was an American record label originally specializing in local punk rock bands, active from 1978 to 2000. It was notable as one of the first and most successful independent record labels in alternative music, before its eventual acquisition by Warner Music Group. History The label was formed in 1978 by Bob Biggs. Biggs, a painter, initiated the label with a seven-inch single from the Germs in 1978. A full album from that band was released the next year, and X's ''Los Angeles'' followed in 1980. The label was distributed through Jem until 1981 when that company went bankrupt. Go Slow Down
''Go Slow Down'' is the BoDeans' fifth studio album, and was released on October 12, 1993. It peaked at number 127 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Overview After taking a more pop approach to ''Black and White'', the band wished to return to a simpler sound and record an album that they were truly happy with. They began setting up a studio in a rented storefront and called upon T-Bone Burnett (producer of their '' debut album'') to work with them once again, this time in an executive producer role. They originally tracked 30 songs live as a full band, but under the advice of their record label, all except for "Closer to Free" were re-recorded with Kurt Neumann playing most of the instruments himself. ''Blend'' is the BoDeans sixth studio album, and was released in 1996. It peaked at number 132 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart. Overview After the band achieved fame and a new audience with '" Closer to Free", they resisted the pressure to duplicate the single's success and wanted to avoid rehashing the same formula. Like '' Go Slow Down'', the band chose to record their next album at Hacksville, their studio in a rented storefront, and self-produced the album with the assistance of producer/engineer Greg Goldman. Recording took place over a two-year period during the time in between tours. Bob Clearmountain was hired to mix "The Understanding" and "Hurt By Love", while Tchad Blake mixed the uptempo "Hey Pretty Girl". The result was a more rock-oriented sound than their previous album, though it continued along a similar direction. "Walkin' After Midnight" is a song written by Alan Block and Don Hecht and recorded by American country music artist Patsy Cline. The song was originally given to pop singer Kay Starr, but her label rejected it. The song was left unused until Hecht rediscovered it when writing for Four Star Records. Originally, Cline was not fond of "Walkin' After Midnight", but after making a compromise with her label, she recorded it. The first released recording, though, was by Lynn Howard with The Accents, released in August 1956. In January 1957, Cline performed the song on an episode of the CBS television program ''Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts''. It garnered a strong response from viewers, so was rush-released as a single on February 11, 1957. Samuel J. Llanas (born February 6, 1961) is an American singer, acoustic guitarist, and songwriter in several rock and roots rock bands active from the 1980s to the 2000s, including BoDeans and Absinthe. Career Llanas was one of the founding members of the roots rock band BoDeans, which he formed with high school friend Kurt Neumann in Waukesha, Wisconsin. In 1985, after adding Guy Hoffman (drums) in 1984 and Bob Griffin (bass), the quartet signed a contract with Slash/Warner Records and shortened their name from Da BoDeans to the BoDeans. Under the guidance of producer T Bone Burnett, Bodeans entered Hollywood's Sunset Sound Factory in October to record their first album.
