Joe Aguirre
Joseph Andrew Aguirre (October 17, 1918 – July 13, 1985) was an American football end. He played collegiately at Saint Mary's College of California and was drafted in the eleventh round of the 1941 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. In addition to playing in the National Football League (NFL) in 1941 and again from 1943 to 1945 for the Redskins, Aguirre played for four years with the Los Angeles Dons of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). He also spent time in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Edmonton Eskimos, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. In gridiron football, an end is a player who lines up at either end of the line of scrimmage, usually beside the Tackle (American football), tackles. The 1944 NFL season was the 25th regular season of the National Football League (NFL). Each of the ten teams in the league played a ten game regular season schedule — a total of 50 contests. The 1943 Washington Redskins were the defending NFL champions and finished the regular season at 6–3–1. They lost their last three games, including the final two to the New York Giants, and the two teams finished with identical records. The league contracted to just eight teams, owing to wartime pressures for manpower, with each team playing a regular season schedule of 10 games — 40 contests in all. The All-America Football Conference (AAFC) was a major professional American football league that challenged the established National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1949. One of the NFL's most formidable challengers, the AAFC attracted many of the nation's best players, and introduced many lasting innovations to the game.
