Jocelyn Ortt-Saeed
Jocelyn Ortt-Saeed (18 January 1935 – 26 September 2014) was an Australian-Pakistani poet, philosopher and social worker. She is listed in the poetry's ''The International Who's Who, World Who's Who'' and was the subject of the documentary film ''Punjabi Love Story''. Personal life Jocelyn Ortt-Saeed was born on 18 January 1935 in Brisbane, Australia, and received her education in Australia and Germany. She married her Pakistani husband Muhammad Saeed, a sugar mill technologist based in Jaranwala, in 1959 in Karachi while she was traveling to Germany for studies. They had six children. Although Ortt-Saeed was raised a Christian, she was married to a Muslim and their children were exposed to both cultures as part of their upbringing. They spoke both English and Urdu at home. Literary career Ortt-Saeed published seven poetry collections. Her last major work was ''Distant Horizons''. Chaudhry Faiz Ahmad Faiz (13 February 1911 – 20 November 1984) was a Pakistani poet and author of Punjabi and Urdu literature. Faiz was one of the most celebrated, popular, and influential Urdu writers of his time, and his works and ideas remain widely influential in Pakistan and beyond. Outside of literature, he has been described as "a man of wide experience", having worked as a teacher, military officer, journalist, trade unionist, and broadcaster. Born in the Punjab Province, Faiz studied at Government College and Oriental College in Lahore and went on to serve in the British Indian Army. After the Partition of India, Faiz served as editor-in-chief of two major newspapers — the English language daily '' Pakistan Times'' and the Urdu daily ''Imroze.'' Islamic Funeral
Islamic funerals () follow fairly specific rites, though they are subject to regional interpretation and variation in custom. In all cases, however, sharia (Islamic religious law) calls for burial of the body as soon as possible. The deceased is first bathed and shrouded with simple white cloth. Then a funeral prayer, Salat al-jinazah, is recited. Cremation of the body is strictly forbidden in Islam and the body is buried without a casket and the head faces Mecca. Fakir Aijazuddin
Fakir Syed Aijazuddin is a Pakistani historian, academic and business executive. From November 2007 to April 2008, he served as Punjab's interim Minister for Culture, Tourism and Environment. Early life Aijazuddin was born in 1942. He received his education from the Aitchison College in Lahore and Berkhamsted School in England, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1965. Career During the 1970s, Aijazuddin worked in various public sector projects across Pakistan, including as a director at the National Fertilizer Corporation. From 1980 to 1989, he worked at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in an executive role. Moneeza Hashmi (; born 1946) is a broadcaster, television producer, actress and a former general manager and director programmes of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV). Hashmi has over four decades of experience working with public media. She is the Trustee of Faiz Foundation Trust, Pakistan and main organizer of Faiz Festival Lahore. Lahore Cathedral
The Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, also known as Lahore Cathedral, is a United Protestant cathedral located in Lahore, Pakistan. It was built on The Mall road in 1887, opposite the Lahore High Court. The cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Lahore, of the Church of Pakistan. The building is in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture and was completed in 1887; and was consecrated on 25 January 1887. The cathedral was originally built out of pink sandstone by architect John Oldrid Scott (son of George Gilbert Scott). In 1898, two towers with tall steeples were added to the building, but the steeples were taken down after the earthquake of 1911.
