Jocelyn Erickson
Jocelyn Erickson (born September 27, 2003) is an American college softball player for the Florida Gators. She previously played for Oklahoma. She was named the NFCA National Player of the Year in 2024. High school career Erickson attended Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Phoenix, Arizona, where she was a two-sport athlete playing both basketball and softball. During her freshman year in 2019, she led the Eagles with 50 RBIs, while hitting .530 with 16 doubles and eight home runs to help lead her team to the 6A state championship. In January 2021, during the second basketball game of the season, she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damaged her inside and outside meniscus while playing for the Eagles. As a result of her injury, she was sidelined for the 2021 season. Catcher
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. The catcher typically calls for pitches using hand signals. The calls are based on the pitcher's mechanics and strengths, as well as the batter's tendencies and weaknesses. Anterior Cruciate Ligament
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of a pair of cruciate ligaments (the other being the posterior cruciate ligament) in the human knee. The two ligaments are also called "cruciform" ligaments, as they are arranged in a crossed formation. In the quadruped stifle joint (analogous to the knee), based on its anatomical position, it is also referred to as the cranial cruciate ligament. The term cruciate translates to cross. Lynnsie Sarah Elam-Phillips (born May 27, 1998) is an American softball player for the Oklahoma City Spark of the Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF) and current assistant coach at University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She played college softball at Oklahoma. High school career Elam played her high school softball career at Chickasha High School in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She led her team to 4 district championships, 3 regional championships, and 2 OSSAA state championships. During her senior season, she had a .491 batting average, 5 homeruns, and 50 RBIs. 2023 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 2023 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 19 through June 8, 2023, as the final part of the 2023 NCAA Division I softball season. The tournament culminated with the 2023 Women's College World Series at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Charlotte, Eastern Illinois, George Mason, North Carolina Central, Northern Colorado, Northern Kentucky, and Omaha made their NCAA Division I softball tournament debuts. Arizona failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1986, while Michigan failed to make the tournament for the first time since 1994. Base On Balls
A base on balls (BB), also known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). It is considered a faux pas for a professional player to literally walk to first base; the batter-runner and any advancing runners normally jog on such a play. In baseball, a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded and all obligations to reach base safely on batted balls are met or assured. A player may score by hitting a home run or by any combination of plays that puts him safely "on base" (that is, on first, second, or third) as a runner and subsequently brings him home. A run batted in (RBI; plural RBIs ) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play). For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate on a higher base to reach home and so score a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI. In baseball, a double is the act of a batter striking the pitched ball and safely reaching second base without being called out by the umpire, without the benefit of a fielder's misplay (see error) or another runner being put out on a fielder's choice. A double is a type of hit (the others being the single, triple and home run) and is sometimes called a "two-bagger" or "two-base hit". For statistical and scorekeeping purposes it is denoted by 2B.
