Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho
Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho (2 July 1888 - 30 July 1950) was a Brazilian lawyer, political leader and influential figure in the separation of the Brazilian Air Force from the Army. Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho was born the son of Joaquim Pedro Salgado and Maria Josefa Artayeta Palmeiro on 2 July 1888 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. He supported Getulio Vargas in the Revolution of 1930, working in the Federal District police (1930-1932), then Minister of Labour (1932-1934), congressman (1935-1937), Minister of Aeronautics (1941-1945) and Senator (1947-1950). He was also president of the Brazilian Labor Party from 1948 until his death. He was one of the creators of the National Air Mail and Air Force School, which resulted in the separation of the Brazilian Air Force of the Army. He stimulated the creation of airports for commercial aviation in Brazil. Salgado Filho died on 30 July 1950. Federal Senate (Brazil)
The Federal Senate () is the upper house of the National Congress of Brazil. When created under the Imperial Constitution in 1824, it was based on the House of Lords of the British Parliament, but since the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889 and under the first republican Constitution the Federal Senate has resembled the United States Senate. The current president of the Federal Senate is Davi Alcolumbre, a member of UNIÃO from Amapá. SAVAG – Sociedade Anônima Viação Aérea Gaúcha was a Brazilian airline founded in 1946 that operated mainly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It was absorbed by Cruzeiro do Sul in 1966. History SAVAG was founded in on November 25, 1946 in the city of Rio Grande, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, by Augusto Otero and Gustavo Kraemer, with a concession to fly within the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Later, the concession was expanded to include the state of Santa Catarina. In 1947 SAVAG purchased 3 Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar from Panair do Brasil and initiated services between Porto Alegre, Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Bagé. In 1948 SAVAG started flying to the north of the state was well. Salgado Filho Porto Alegre International Airport
Porto Alegre–Salgado Filho International Airport is the airport serving Porto Alegre and the region of Greater Porto Alegre, Brazil. Since October 12, 1951, it is named after the Senator and first Minister of the Brazilian Air Force Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho (1888–1950). It is operated by Fraport Brasil. History Salgado Filho was originally called São João Federal Airport, after the neighborhood where it is located. In the beginning it was an air club, where the first flights landed on May 31, 1923. In 1932, needing a facility for the fixed-gear aircraft which were replacing its seaplanes, Varig started using São João Airport as an operational base. However, it was only in 1940 that the first passenger terminal was commissioned. The Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar is an American passenger transport aircraft of the World War II era, developed as part of the Model 10 Electra family, specifically from the Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra. Design and development Sales of the 10–14 passenger Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra, which first flew in 1937, had proved disappointing, despite the aircraft's excellent performance. It was more expensive to operate than the larger Douglas DC-3, already in widespread use. In order to improve the type's economics, Lockheed decided to stretch the aircraft's fuselage by , allowing an extra two rows of seats to be fitted.
