Joaquim Falcão
Joaquim de Arruda Falcão Neto is a Brazilian scholar and writer. He was born on September 10, 1943, in Rio de Janeiro, the son of Maria de Lourdes Saldanha de Arruda Falcão and Corintho de Arruda Falcão. He holds a PhD in Education from the University of Geneva (1981), an LLM from Harvard Law School (1968), and a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1966). He was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School (1991). He is currently a full professor of Constitutional Law at Fundação Getulio Vargas Law School where he was also founder and director. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and of the Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute. He is deputy director of Itaú Cultural. He is a member of the Brazilian Lawyers' Institute. He is the editor of the Revista de Direito Administrativo. Brazilian Academy Of Letters
The Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL; English: ''Brazilian Academy of Letters'') is a Brazilian literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on Tuesday, 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on Thursday, 28 January 1897. On Tuesday, 20 July of the same year, the academy started its operation. According to its statutes, it is the pre-eminent Portuguese council for matters pertaining to the Portuguese language. The ABL is considered the foremost institution devoted to the Portuguese language in Brazil. Carlos Heitor Cony (March 14, 1926 – January 5, 2018) was a Brazilian journalist and writer. He was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (Portuguese: Academia Brasileira de Letras). Cony viewed himself as center-leftist and faced persecution under the military government in the 1960s. Four of his works were adapted to movies. He was a columnist at the Brazilian newspaper '' Folha de S.Paulo''. Cony died in Rio de Janeiro on January 5, 2018, of multiple organ failure at the age of 91.
