Joannes Vislicensis
Joannis Vislicensis (, ''Jan Vislicki''; , Jan from Wiślica; –1520) was a medieval author of epic poetry in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Kingdom of Poland (1385–1569), Kingdom of Poland, a representative of the Polish-Latin branch of poetry. Biography There is virtually no biographical information about Joannis beyond his poetic works and related correspondence with his teacher, Pavel the Ruthenian, and most of biographical details are uncertain or deduced indirectly. Polish historians consider Wislica in Poland to be his birthplace. Grand Duchy Of Lithuania
The Grand Duchy of Lithuania was a sovereign state in northeastern Europe that existed from the 13th century, succeeding the Kingdom of Lithuania, to the late 18th century, when the territory was suppressed during the 1795 Partitions of Poland, partitions of Poland–Lithuania. The state was founded by Lithuanians (tribe), Lithuanians, who were at the time a Lithuanian mythology, polytheistic nation of several united Baltic tribes from Aukštaitija. By 1440 the grand duchy had become the largest European state, controlling an area from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south.
