Joanne Deakins
Joanne Cara Deakins (born 20 November 1972) is an English former competitive swimmer. Swimming career Deakins specialised in the backstroke and represented Great Britain at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She represented England in the 100 metres and 200 metres backstroke and won a silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay, at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Swimming At The 1996 Summer Olympics
The swimming competition at the 1996 Summer Olympics was held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, United States. There were 762 competitors from 117 countries. This was the last Olympics where swimming B-finals were held. At the time of the games, the facility had a temporary 50m warm-up pool located behind the locker rooms and entry concourse (on the ground); as well as a temporary roof, and open walls (there were wall-like structures/curtains at the diving well and turning end of the pool). The open walls allowed for temporary seating to be in place during the games. A wall and new roof have since been placed on the facility. 1993 European Aquatics Championships
The 1993 European Aquatics Championships were held in Sheffield, United Kingdom from Tuesday 3 August to Sunday 8 August, in the 50 m pool of the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
