Joan LaCour Scott
Joan LaCour Scott (born Joan Patricia LaCour; May 21, 1921 – June 19, 2012) was an American trade union activist and screenwriter, who wrote for ''Lassie'', ''Have Gun – Will Travel'', '' Surfside 6'', ''The Waltons'', ''The Adventures of Robin Hood,'' and ''Lancelot.'' Early life Joan Patricia LaCour was born in Long Branch, New Jersey on May 21, 1921. Her father left home when she was two and her mother worked as a vaudeville performer to support her family. As young girls, she and her twin sister Jean appeared on the stage as the LaCour Sisters. In 1933, her family decided to move to California, where LaCour's mother hoped for fame for her daughters. Their plan was to travel south and then west. In Atlanta, LaCour's grandfather jumped from a hotel window in a suicide attempt. Long Branch is a beachside city in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 31,667, an increase of 948 (+3.1%) from the 2010 census count of 30,719, which in turn reflected a decline of 621 (−2.0%) from the 31,340 counted in the 2000 census. As of the 2020 census, it was the 6th-most-populous municipality in Monmouth County and had the 74th-highest population of any municipality in New Jersey. Long Branch was formed on April 11, 1867, as the Long Branch Commission, from portions of Ocean Township. Communist Front
A communist front (or a mass organization in communist parlance) is a political organization identified as a front organization, allied with or under the effective control of a communist party, the Communist International or other communist organizations. It is a structure used by Communist and left-wing parties to intervene in broader political movements. They attracted politicized individuals who were not party members but who often followed the party line and were called fellow travellers. The American Heritage Center is the University of Wyoming's repository of manuscripts, rare books, and the university archives. Hannah Weinstein ( Dorner; June 23, 1911 – March 9, 1984) was an American-British journalist, publicist and left-wing political activist who moved to Britain and became a television producer. She is best remembered for having produced ''The Adventures of Robin Hood'' television series in the mid-to-late 1950s. Early life Born to a Jewish family in New York City, after graduating with a degree in journalism from New York University, Weinstein worked for the ''New York Herald Tribune'' from 1927. In 1937, she left the newspaper to join Fiorello H. La Guardia's mayoral campaign in New York City. She was also involved in the presidential campaigns of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Henry Wallace. The Hollywood blacklist was the mid-20th century banning of suspected Communists from working in the United States entertainment industry.
