Joachim Stutschewsky
Joachim-Yehoyachin Stutschewsky (, ; 7 February 1891, Romny, Russian Empire – 14 November 1982, Tel Aviv, Israel) was a Ukraine-born and Israeli cellist, composer, musicologist. Biography Joachim-Yehoyachin Stutschewsky was born on 7 February 1891 in Romny (), '' guberniya'' of Poltava, Russian Empire, in a family of klezmer musicians. His father, Kalmen-Leyb Stutschewsky was a clarinetist. Stutschewsky started playing the violin at the age of five but soon started playing the cello. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Leipzig from 1909 to 1912. He returned to Russian Empire, but after he was smuggled across the border to avoid forced conscription. He then tried to earn his livelihood for a short period of time as a cellist, in Paris and Jena. He moved to Vienna in 1924 where he joined the Kolisch Quartet. Romny
Romny (, ) is a city in Sumy Oblast, northern Ukraine. It is located on the Romen River. Romny serves as the administrative centre of Romny Raion and hosts the administration of , one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History The city was founded in AD 902. On September 16, 2002, the city celebrated its 1,100th anniversary. Romny was first mentioned in documents in 1096 (as Romen, ; the name, originally that of the river, is of Baltic origin, cf. Lithuanian ''romus'' 'quiet'). At various times, it passed under Mongol, Lithuanian, Polish and Russian rule. By 1638, the city had a population of 6,000 inhabitants, which made it by far the largest settlement in the area. In 1781, the city was granted a charter by the Tsarina Catherine II. Jewish folklore are legends, music, oral history, proverbs, jokes, popular beliefs, fairy tales, stories, tall tales, and customs that are the traditions of Judaism. Folktales are characterized by the presence of unusual personages, by the sudden transformation of men into beasts and vice versa, or by other unnatural incidents. A number of aggadic stories bear folktale characteristics, especially those relating to Og, King of Bashan, which have the same exaggerations as have the ''lügenmärchen'' of modern German folktales.
