Jlin (musician)
Jerrilynn Patton (born July 30, 1987), known as Jlin, is an electronic musician. She began producing music in 2008 and received early attention for her 2011 track "Erotic Heat". Jlin's debut album, ''Dark Energy'', was released in 2015 to critical praise. Her follow-up '' Black Origami'' (2017) received further acclaim. Biography Patton was raised in Gary, Indiana. Growing up, she was exposed to music through her parents, and her favorite artists were Anita Baker, Rachelle Ferrell, and Sade. She also heard footwork at an early age. She briefly attended Purdue University as a math major. As an adult, she supported herself by working at a steel mill, although she claims this did not substantively influence her work. Gary ( ) is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. Ghetto House
Ghetto house or booty house is a subgenre of house music which started being recognized as a distinct style from around 1992 onwards. It features minimal 808 and 909 drum machine-driven tracks and sometimes sexually explicit lyrics. The template of classic Chicago house music (primarily, "It's Time for the Percolator" by Cajmere) was used with the addition of sexual lyrics. It has usually been made on minimal equipment with little or no effects. It usually features either a " 4-to-the-floor" kick drum or beat-skipping kick drums such as those found in the subgenre "juke" (full sounding, but not too long or distorted) along with Roland 808 and 909 synthesized tom-tom sounds, minimal use of analogue synths, and short, slightly dirty sounding (both sonically and lyrically) vocals samples, often repeated in various ways. Akoma
''Akoma'' is the third album by American producer Jlin. It was released on March 22, 2024, through Planet Mu, as her first studio album in seven years, following ''Black Origami'' (2017). Background Following years of collaborative projects with the likes of Holly Herndon, Sophie and Kronos Quartet, ''Akoma'' sees the producer return to her signature blend of various genres, including jazz, classic and minimalist music into one "160 BPM rhythmic framework" of "Chicago footwork". On January 18, 2024, Patton announced the album and revealed collaborations with Björk, Kronos Quartet, and Philip Glass. In creating the record, she drew inspiration from Glass, Eartha Kitt, Nina Simone, Third Coast Percussion, and HBCU marching bands. The Pulitzer Prize for Music is one of seven Pulitzer Prizes awarded annually in Letters, Drama, and Music. It was first given in 1943. Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy Award-winning American percussion ensemble, based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The group, composed of Sean Connors, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, and David Skidmore, specializes in new music/contemporary classical music and is known for its touring and recording activities. Third Coast Percussion was the Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center from 2013-2018. They are the first ensemble at the University of Notre Dame to create a permanent and progressive ensemble residency program at the center. Holly Herndon (born 1980) is an American artist and composer based in Berlin, Germany. After studying composition at Stanford University and completing her Ph.D. at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, she pursued a music career internationally. William James Basinski (born June 25, 1958) is an American avant-garde composer based in Los Angeles, California. He is also a clarinetist, saxophonist, sound artist, and video artist.
