Jin-go-lo-ba
"Jin-go-lo-ba" (or "Jingo") is a song by Nigerian percussionist Babatunde Olatunji, featured on his first album '' Drums of Passion'' (1959). In Yoruba (Olatunji's native language) it means, "Do not worry." The song featured "African-derived rhythms and chants" along with "swooping orchestration". In his autobiography, Olatunji said that this was the only song on his first album that he claimed formal ownership of, meaning that it was the only song he received royalties for. American disc jockey Francis Grasso described the song as "rhythmically sensual". Usage in media The Fatboy Slim version is featured on '' Just Dance'' (2009) and '' Just Dance: Greatest Hits'' (2012). It was also featured on '' Just Dance 3'' (2011) as a downloadable track for the Xbox 360 but became unavailable for purchase following the removal of most DLCs from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on August 20, 2023. ''Drums of Passion'' is an album produced by Babatunde Olatunji, a percussionist from Nigeria, in 1960. It was the first recording to popularize African music in the West, becoming immensely successful and selling over five million copies. In 2002, it was released as a single layer stereo and 5.1 SACD by Columbia Records. In 2004 the album was added to the National Recording Registry. "Jin-go-lo-ba" This was the most popular song on the album, and it sold millions of copies as a single. This simple exchange between the mother drum (iya ilu) and the baby drum omele became Babatunde's signature song. ''Santana'' is the debut studio album by American Latin rock band Santana, released on August 22, 1969, by Columbia Records. Over half of the album's length is composed of instrumental music, recorded by what was originally a purely free-form jam band. At the suggestion of manager Bill Graham, the band took to writing more conventional songs for more impact, but managed to retain the essence of improvisation in the music. The album was destined to be a major release, given a boost by the band's performance at the Woodstock Festival earlier that August. ''Just Visiting This Planet'' is the second album by Jellybean, the nickname for American producer, remixer and songwriter John Benitez. The album was released in 1987 and contains the singles "Who Found Who", " The Real Thing", " Jingo" and "Just a Mirage". In 2012, the album was remastered and expanded by Cherry Red Records. It featured five remixes, including a remix of the song " Sidewalk Talk", which was originally released as a single in 1985 and is written by Madonna, who also provides backing vocals. Steve Lee (songwriter)
Steve Lee is an Ivor Novello nominated English songwriter and musician. He has written for artists worldwide and had numerous international hits. In the mid-1980s, as a lead vocalist, he worked on an original project with Anne Dudley (Art of Noise) but failed to secure a record deal. In 1985, as a sax player, he toured with the band B-Movie. He then fronted the band Krew, comprising mainly Nik Kershaw's band, and released the single "Paper Heroes" on WEA Records in April 1986. The band was short-lived, however, and from there he toured with The Duel as a sax player, supporting 5 Star on their British tour of 1987. In 1988, Lee signed to IRS Records with Gary Miller as Big Smile and released one single, "Crocodile Tears", after which they split. John Benitez (born November 7, 1957), also known as Jellybean, is an American musician, songwriter, DJ, remixer, and music producer. He has produced and remixed artists such as Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and the Pointer Sisters. He was later the executive producer of Studio 54 Radio. Babatunde Olatunji
Michael Babatunde Olatunji (April 7, 1927 – April 6, 2003) was a Nigerian drummer, educator, social activist, and recording artist. Early life Olatunji was born in the village of Ajido, near Badagry, Lagos State, in southwestern Nigeria. A member of the Ogu (Egun) people, Olatunji was introduced to traditional African music at an early age. His name, Bàbátúndé, means 'father has returned', because he was born two months after his father, Zannu, died, and Olatunji was considered to be a reincarnation of him. His father was a local fisherman who was about to rise to the rank of chieftain, and his mother was a potter. Olatunji grew up speaking the Gun (Ogu/Egun) and Yoruba languages. Latin Rock is a term to describe a subgenre blending traditional sounds and elements of Latin American and Hispanic Caribbean folk with rock music.
