Jimmy Villotti
Marco Villotti (14 February 1944 – 6 December 2023), known professionally as Jimmy Villotti, was an Italian jazz guitarist and writer. Life and career Born Marco Villotti in Budrio, he grew up in Bologna, studying piano and guitar. From 1963 he played with a group Meteors; they made recordings and appeared with the broadcaster RCA Italiana, accompanying Gianni Morandi. He played with other beat groups, such as Forlì's I Baci, with Vasco Rossi's future bassist, Claudio Golinelli, and Ivan Graziani's future drummer, Gilberto Rossi. In the 1970s he formed the progressive rock group Jimmy M.E.C. with Fio Zanotti; they released a recording for Fonit Cetra. Villotti played with musicians such as Augusto Martelli (1974), and Andrea Mingardi and Lucio Dalla (1977). Budrio
Budrio ( Eastern Bolognese: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, Italy; it is east of Bologna. Budrio is the birthplace of Giuseppe Barilli, better known under his pseudonym of Quirico Filopanti, an Italian mathematician and politician. History Budrio's area was a Roman colony, whose territory was divided between veteran legionaries. The current town was however founded in the 10th-11th centuries AD. Ornella Vanoni (; born 22 September 1934) is an Italian singer-songwriter and actress. She is one of the longest-standing Italian artists, having started performing in 1956. She has released about 112 works between LP, EPs and greatest hits albums, and is considered one of most popular interpreters of Italian pop music. During her long career she has sold over 65 million records. Artistic career Vanoni started her artistic career in 1960 as a theatre actress. She mostly performed in Bertolt Brecht works, under the direction of Giorgio Strehler at his Piccolo Teatro in Milan. At the same time, she started a music career. The folklore and popular songs she explored in her early records, especially the ones about the criminal underworld in Milan, resulted in her receiving the nickname ("Underworld Singer"). PolyGram N.V. was a multinational entertainment company and major music record label formerly based in the Netherlands. René Thomas (guitarist)
René Thomas (25 February 1927 – 3 January 1975) was a Belgian jazz guitarist. In the early 1950s, he moved to Paris, France, and became part of the modern jazz scene, playing in the style of Jimmy Raney. He spent brief periods in the United States from 1958 to 1962. Back in Europe, he toured and recorded with Chet Baker, Bobby Jaspar, Kenny Clarke, Eddy Louiss, Stan Getz, Lucky Thompson, Sonny Criss, Jacques Pelzer, Lou Bennett, Charles "Lolo" Bellonzi, and Ingfried Hoffmann. Thomas died of a heart attack in Santander, Spain, at the age of 47 on 3 January 1975. George Coleman
George Edward Coleman (born March 8, 1935) is an American jazz saxophonist known for his work with Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock in the 1960s. In 2015, he was named an NEA Jazz Master. Early life Coleman was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He was taught how to play the alto saxophone in his teens by his older brother Lucian Adams, inspired (like many jazz musicians of his generation) by Charlie Parker. Among his schoolmates were Harold Mabern, Booker Little, Frank Strozier, Hank Crawford, and Charles Lloyd. Later life and career After working with Ray Charles, Coleman started working with B.B. King in 1953, at which point he switched to tenor saxophone. In 1956 Coleman moved to Chicago, along with Booker Little, where he worked with Gene Ammons and Johnny Griffin before joining Max Roach's quintet (1958–1959). Steve Grossman (saxophonist)
Steven Mark Grossman (January 18, 1951August 13, 2020) was an American jazz fusion and hard bop saxophonist. Grossman was Wayne Shorter's replacement in Miles Davis's jazz-fusion band. He played with Chick Corea on the album "The Sun" in 1970, then, from 1971 to 1973, he was in Elvin Jones's band. In the late 1970s, he was part of the Stone Alliance trio with Don Alias and Gene Perla. The group released four albums during this period, including one featuring Brazilian trumpeter Márcio Montarroyos. The albums also feature an array of other musicians. They went on to release three live reunion albums during the 2000s. Personal life Grossman was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States, on January 18, 1951, to Rosalind, an amateur pianist, and Irving, an RCA salesman and later president of KLH Research and Development Corporation.
