James Smith (born September 2, 1977) is an American sports broadcaster and former mixed martial artist. He was the co-host of the television show '' Fight Quest'', with Doug Anderson, on the Discovery Channel. He is also a former commentator for Bellator, UFC, Premier Boxing Champions and WWE’s Raw brand. He is a former host for ''American Ninja Warrior'' in 2010–2011. Early life Smith was born on September 2, 1977. He was a former high school wrestler and teacher. He attended UCLA in college but at that time, they did not have a wrestling team so some students who wrestled in high school would meet at the Wooden Center to wrestle. ''American Ninja Warrior'' (sometimes abbreviated as ''ANW'') is an American sports entertainment reality show based on the Japanese television reality show ''Sasuke (TV series), Sasuke,'' which also serves as a successor of ''American Ninja Challenge''. It features a set of obstacle courses in various cities, which competitors attempt to conquer. The obstacle courses are divided into Qualifiers courses, Semifinals courses, and a four-part Finals course which is based at Las Vegas Strip (sometimes called ''Mount Midoriyama''). The third season of ''American Ninja Warrior'' began airing on July 31, 2011, on G4. Tryouts took place in May 2011 at Venice Beach, California. After the tryouts, the top 15 competitors competed in Ninja Warrior Boot Camp with the top 10 moving on to Japan for the finals of the competition as a part of Sasuke 27 and a chance at becoming the first American to conquer the course and win a $500,000 endorsement deal with K-Swiss. The second season of ''American Ninja Warrior'' began on December 8, 2010, in Venice Beach, California where 300 competitors took on the course. The 15 semi-finalists moved on to the ''"Ninja Warrior Boot Camp"'' in the remote California mountains, where they competed in a series of team challenges. Then, the final moved on to compete in the season finale of ''American Ninja Warrior 2'' as a part of '' Sasuke 26'' at Mount Midoriyama in Japan.
