Jimmy George (other)
Jimmy George (8 March 1955 – 30 November 1987) was an Indian volleyball player and captain of the Indian national volleyball team. Often dubbed the God of Indian volleyball, he is considered as one of the greatest volleyball players of all time. Jimmy played for Kerala and Indian teams as an amateur. In 1979, he became the first Indian to become a professional volleyball player and played for multiple clubs outside the country, most notably in Italy. He still remains the youngest volleyball player to receive the Arjuna Award, one of India's highest national sporting awards. Career Jimmy George was born to the Kudakkachira family, at Thundiyil near Peravoor in Kannur, as the second son of George Joseph and Mary George. He learned to play volleyball from his father, a former university-level player. PalaGeorge is an indoor arena located in Montichiari, Italy, in the province of Brescia. The capacity of the arena is 5,500 people for basketball matches and it opened in 1993. It is home of the Brescia Leonessa team of the Lega Basket Serie A and the volleyball teams Promoball Flero (also known as Metalleghe Montichiari) and Millenium Brescia of the Italian Women's Volleyball League (Series A1 and A2 respectively). 1978 Asian Games
The 8th Asian Games () were held from 9 to 20 December 1978, in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally, the host city was Singapore but Singapore dropped its plan to host the Games due to financial problems. Then Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, was decided to host the 8th Games. But Islamabad also dropped its plan to host the Asian Games due to conflicts with Bangladesh and India.
