James Foster (born December 16, 1951) is a retired American basketball player. He was a 6'1", 175 lb guard born in Jersey City, New Jersey and attended the University of Connecticut and played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) from 1974 to 1976 with the Spirits of St. Louis and Denver Nuggets. The Carolina Cougars were a basketball franchise in the American Basketball Association that existed from 1969 through 1974. The Cougars were originally a charter member of the ABA as the Houston Mavericks in 1967. The Mavericks moved to North Carolina in late 1969 after two unsuccessful seasons in Houston at the Sam Houston Coliseum.
