Jimmy Caras
James Caras (17 December 1908 – 3 December 2002) was an American professional pool player, most well known for winning five World Straight Pool Championship titles between 1935 and 1949. After a 12-year hiatus, Caras would return to cue sports, and win the BCA U.S. Open Straight Pool Championship in 1967 at the age of 58. Caras would be inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 1977. Caras is also known for inventing trick shots, as well as producing books, such as ''Pocket billiard fundamentals and trick shots made easy'' in 1969. and ''Trick and Fancy Shots in Pocket Billiards'' in 1966. World Straight Pool Championship
The World Straight Pool Championship is a top-level competition for straight pool, also known as "14.1 continuous". History In 1910, Jerome Keough invented straight pool as a way to increase the challenge over previous continuous games. Soon after the new rules were adopted for world championship play. The championship was the most prestigious pool tournament until the late 20th century, when the game of Nine-ball surpassed straight pool as the most prominent game for professional players. Other straight pool tournaments which are still held annually such as the American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship and the European Pool Championship 14.1, have gained prominence in recent years. Delaware Sports Museum And Hall Of Fame
The Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame was founded in 1976. Al Cartwright, who helped found it, was its first president and was inducted to its hall of fame in 1980.
