Jimei District
() is one of six districts of Xiamen, People's Republic of China. Founded in 1992, with an area of , in 2003 it gained some territory in a reorganisation of district governments. The total local resident population is 280,000. Jimei District has a rich history and vibrant culture. It hosts modern facilities such as universities, a culture center, cinema, stadium, library and culture square. Xiamen Special Economic Zone
Xiamen Special Economic Zone (), established in October 1980, is one of the five special economic zones in the People's Republic of China. Originally comprising a territory of 2.5 km2 in Xiamen City, it was expanded to 131 km2 in 1984, covering the entire Xiamen Island, which comprises Huli District and Siming District excluding Gulangyu. Haicang and Xinglin districts were designated "Taiwan Businessmen Investment Zones" on 20 May 1989, and Jimei District was designated in 1992. Huaqiao University (; Acronym: HQU) is a national university located in Xiamen and Quanzhou, Fujian province, China. Huaqiao University was founded in 1960, with support from the late Chinese premier and historical figure Zhou Enlai, for students of overseas Chinese backgrounds ( Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore) to pursue tertiary education in their ancestral homelands. Tan Kah Kee
Tan Kah Kee (; 21 October 1874 – 12 August 1961) was a Chinese businessman, investor, and philanthropist active in Singapore and the Chinese cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Guangzhou. A prominent figure in the overseas Chinese community in Singapore and wider Southeast Asia during the 20th century, he was responsible for gathering much support from the community to aid China in major events such as the Xinhai Revolution (1911), the Kuomintang's Northern Expedition (1926–28), and the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–45). Xiamen Metro, officially branded as AMTR (Amoy Transit Rail, formerly Across Mass Transit Railway), is a rapid transit system serving Xiamen, Fujian, China. Line 1 began operation on 31 December 2017. Line 2 began operation on 25 December 2019. Line 3 began operation on 25 June 2021. () is one of the administrative districts of the city of Xiamen, People's Republic of China. Geography Huli District occupies the northern half of Xiamen Island, with 3 sides facing the narrow ocean straits that separate Xiamen Island from China's mainland.
