Jim Redgate
Jim Redgate is an Australian classical guitar luthier, who owns Redgate Guitars. As of 2012, he makes four models, the lattice-braced, the double-top, and the new wave double-top and traditional fan-braced. His customers include Pepe Romero, Ana Vidović, Ralph Towner, Slava Grigoryan, Leonard Grigoryan, Bertrand Thomas, Jeff Young, Gareth Koch, Odair Assad, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Karin Schaupp, Emmanuel Rossfelder, Hucky Eichelman, and Phillipe Mariotti. One author said of him, "Like fellow Australian Greg Smallman, Redgate builds his (lattice-braced) guitars with an arched back to improve their volume and projection, and he uses lightweight carbon fiber reinforcements under the soundboard. While not as thin as a Smallman's, Redgate's soundboards are much lighter than traditionally braced examples, and his guitars are therefore more responsive, energy efficient, and louder than traditional classical instruments." Pepe Romero
Pepe Romero (born 8 March 1944, in Málaga, Spain) is a classical and flamenco guitarist. Biography Early life Pepe Romero was born in Spain, the second son of celebrated guitarist and composer Celedonio Romero, who was his only guitar teacher. His first professional appearance was in a shared concert with his father at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Seville, when Pepe was only seven years old, playing a gavotte by Bach and ''Sevilla'' by Albéniz. In 1957 Celedonio Romero left Franco's Spain for the United States with his singer actress wife, Angelita, and his three sons, Celin, Pepe and Angel, settling in the San Diego area. Teaching Romero served as guitar professor at the University of Southern California, Southern Methodist University, University of San Diego and University of California at San Diego, before taking up the post of adjunct professor at USC Thornton School of Music. Karin Schaupp
Karin Schaupp (born 1972) is a German-born Australian classical guitarist. She has won APRA Music Awards and ARIA Music Awards. Early life Karin Schaupp was born in Hofheim am Taunus, Germany, in 1972. Her mother, Isolde Schaupp, was a teacher of guitar at the conservatorium of Wiesbaden. Her father, a doctor, was an amateur pianist, and her aunt and grandmother were opera singers. Karin was given a half-size guitar by her grandmother when she was aged three. She started her guitar studies with her mother when she was five, and performed in public at age six. Her family, including both sets of grandparents, migrated from Germany to Australia when she was aged eight, and they have been based in Brisbane, Queensland, where Isolde Schaupp continues to teach at the University of Queensland and the University of Southern Queensland. Emmanuel Rossfelder
Emmanuel Rossfelder (born 1973) is a French classical guitarist. Life Rossfelder started playing the guitar at the age of 5. He started as a student of Raymond Gellier. At the age of 8, he entered the Conservatoire de musique of Aix en Provence in Bertrand Thomas' class. At the age of 14, he obtained the gold medal from the Conservatoire of Aix-en-Provence and became a student of Alexandre Lagoya at the Conservatoire de Paris. He was then the youngest guitarist to join the classes of the master. At only 18 years old he obtained his prize from the Conservatoire de Paris. In 2004, he was named Instrumental Soloist Revelation of the Year at the Victoires de la musique classique. Rossfelder has recorded 4 solo CDs and one DVD. Wolfgang Muthspiel
Wolfgang Muthspiel (born 2 March 1965) is an Austrian jazz guitarist and record label owner. He is the brother of musician Christian Muthspiel. Music career When he was six, he began playing violin, and at fourteen he moved on to classical guitar. He went to the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship. Beginning in 1985, he recorded three albums with his brother Christian. He released his first solo album, ''Timezones'', in 1989. For two years, he toured with Gary Burton and guitarist Mick Goodrick, one of his teachers at Berklee. During the 1990s, Muthspiel lived in New York City and recorded more solo albums. His sidemen included Don Alias, Larry Grenadier, Tom Harrell, and Kenny Wollesen. He appeared as a guest on albums by Patricia Barber, Marc Johnson, Paul Motian, and Gary Peacock. Ana Vidović (born 8 November 1980) is a Croatian classical guitarist. A guitarist child prodigy, she has won a number of prizes and international competitions all over the world. Early life Vidović was born on November 8, 1980, in Karlovac, Croatia. Her father, Ljubomir, played bass guitar and performed with his band nationwide in his youth. She has two older brothers, Viktor, a classical guitarist, and Silvije, a concert pianist. Inspired by her brother Viktor, she started playing guitar at age 5. She attended a music school in her hometown, and began performing at 8.
