Jim Joe Edwards
James Corbette Edwards (December 14, 1894 – January 19, 1965) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for different teams between the and seasons. Listed at , 185 lb., Edwards batted right-handed and threw left-handed. A native of Banner, Mississippi, Edwards attended Mississippi College and played college baseball there. After graduating in April 1922, the Cleveland Indians signed him to a contract and immediately placed him on the major league roster. He made his debut on May 14, and in 25 games he had a 3–8 win–loss record and a 4.47 earned run average (ERA). In 1923, he spent some time as a starting pitcher and some as a relief pitcher. In 38 games, 21 of them starts, he had a 10–10 record and a 3.71 ERA in 179.1 innings pitched. In 1924, Edwards pitched in 10 games for the Indians, and had a 4–3 record and a 2.84 ERA. Pontotoc is a city in, and the county seat of, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, located to the west of the much larger city of Tupelo. The population was 5,625 at the 2010 census. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role. The save statistic was created by journalist Jerome Holtzman in 1959 to "measure the effectiveness of relief pitchers" and was adopted as an official Major League Baseball (MLB) statistic in 1969. Complete Game
In baseball, a complete game (CG) is the act of a pitcher pitching an entire game without the benefit of a relief pitcher. A pitcher who meets this criterion will be credited with a complete game regardless of the number of innings played—pitchers who throw an entire official game that is shortened by rain will still be credited with a complete game, while starting pitchers who are relieved in extra innings after throwing nine or more innings will not be credited with a complete game. A starting pitcher who is replaced by a pinch hitter in the final half inning of a game will still be credited with a complete game.
