James Jeffries (Louisiana Politician)
James A. Jeffries (October 1836 – January 18, 1910) was the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, with service from 1888 to 1892 under governor of Louisiana, Governor Francis T. Nicholls. Jeffries was allied with the Nicholls faction of the Louisiana United States Democratic Party, Democratic Party. While he was lieutenant governor, he also served as a member of the Democratic National Committee. Jeffries was born in Kentucky but in 1859 was living in Washington County, Texas, Washington County in southeast Texas, where he married the former Annie Munsen (or Munson). He is listed in the 1860 census for Milam County, Texas, Milam County, Texas, as a lawyer and was the trustee/guardian for Annie's two siblings. Annie J. Jeffries, wife of James Jeffries, died in Cameron, Texas, Cameron in Milam County on 26 May 1861. James Edmund Jeffries (June 1, 1925 – August 22, 1997) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from Kansas from 1979 to 1983. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Jeffries attended the public schools. He graduated from Cranbrook Schools, Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, 1943. He attended Michigan State University, Lansing, 1947. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. and was an investment counselor and corporate director from 1956 to 1979. He served as a delegate to the Kansas State Republican convention, 1978. Jeffries was elected as a Republican Party (United States), Republican to the 96th United States Congress, Ninety-sixth and to the 97th United States Congress, Ninety-seventh Congresses (January 3, 1979 – January 3, 1983).
