Bacunayagua
Bacunayagua is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. voting district) of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, in Mayabeque Province. In 2011 it had a population of 3,371. Geography The small northern Cuban settlement was established on the side of the important Vía Blanca (road), where a deep canyon cuts the coastal hills between the Yumuri Valley and the Straits of Florida coast. It marks the boundary between the Mayabeque Province and Matanzas Province. Transport Bacunayagua Bridge The ''Bridge of Bacunayagua'', inaugurated in September 1959, crosses the canyon, and at above the valley floor is the highest bridge in Cuba. Boca De Jaruco
Boca de Jaruco () is a small fishing village in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It is located in the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, at the mouth of the ''Rio Jaruco'', on the Straits of Florida. Overview An extensive oil field was developed west of the village; hundreds of wells were drilled in the 1970s and 1980s by the Cuban national oil company Cupet in cooperation with Soviet technicians. The oil pumps (many no longer operational) can be seen on either side of the Via Blanca highway as it passes through Boca de Jaruco. The wells are managed by the Russian Zarubezhneft and the Cuban Cubapetroleo. The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the site in October 2019, where Zarubezhneft was planning to invest 100 million euros to drill 30 wells in two years in a move to reduce Cuba's dependence on oil imports. Santa Cruz Del Norte
Santa Cruz del Norte is a town and municipality in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. Before 2011 it was part of La Habana Province. It is located on the north shore, between the cities of Havana and Matanzas, at the mouth of the Santa Cruz River. Overview The town was founded in 1800, being a fishing community at that time, and achieved municipality status in 1931. This is the main home of the Havana Club rum distillery; all dark varieties being produced in Santa Cruz del Norte. The distillery can be visited as part of a tour. Other industries in the municipality include power generation, oil extraction and fishing. Camilo Cienfuegos (Santa Cruz Del Norte)
Hershey (officially known as Camilo Cienfuegos) is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("popular council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, in Mayabeque Province. History Milton Hershey, the famous American chocolatier and businessman, visited Cuba in 1916. Hershey decided to buy sugar plantations and mills in Cuba to supply the growing Pennsylvania-based Hershey Company. He built an adjoining town for the workers and their families to live, which he named Hershey. The village grew to 160 homes and had high standards of living, a public school, medical clinic, stores, a movie theater, and a golf course. There is also a baseball stadium where a team sponsored by the Hershey Company played home games. The factory was one of the most productive sugar refineries in Cuba and Latin America.
