Jianguomen Inner Street
Jianguomen Inner Street () is a major street in urban Beijing. It forms part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. Its path begins after the Dongdan intersection heading east until Jianguomen Bridge. During its short run, it crosses with the intersection to the Beijing railway station. The Beijing International Hotel also lies along its track, as does a main postal office and the building of China customs. The street ends near the Beijing Ancient Observatory. Chang'an Avenue (), literally "Eternal Peace Street", is a major road, thoroughfare in Beijing, China. Chang'an () is also the old name for Xi'an which was the capital of China during the Han dynasty, Western Han dynasty, the Tang dynasty and other periods. The Avenue has also been referred to as the Shili Changjie (), meaning the Ten Li (unit), Li Long Street, China's No. 1 Avenue and No. 1 Avenue of the Divine Land. Dongdan (), literally "Eastern Single" or "Eastern Single Sign Gate" is the name of a crossing on Beijing's Chang'an Avenue and surrounding neighborhood. Jianguomen (Beijing)
Jianguomen () was a gate in the city wall that once stood in Beijing and is now a transportation hub to the east of city centre. At Jianguomen bridge, the eastern 2nd Ring Road divides Jianguomen Inner Street to the west from Jianguomen Outer Street to the east. A sub-district, Jianguomen Subdistrict is named after the gate. It is part of the Dongcheng district. History Jianguomen was not one of the 16 original gates in Beijing's 15th century Ming-era city wall. The gate was an opening on the east side of Beijing's inner city wall that was created in 1939 during the Japanese occupation of the city to enable access to the industrializing eastern suburbs of the city. The gate was formally named the ''Jianguomen'' in November 1945. At that time Beiping, as the city was then known, returned to Chinese rule. Beijing Railway Station
Beijing railway station, or simply Beijing station, is a passenger railway station in Dongcheng District, Beijing. The station is located just southeast of the city centre inside the Second Ring Road with Beijing Station Street to the north and the remnants of the city wall between Chongwenmen and Dongbianmen to the south. The Beijing railway station opened in 1959 and was the largest train station in China at the time. Though superseded by the larger Beijing West and Beijing South stations, this station remains the only one located inside the old walled city. Trains entering and leaving the station pass by the Dongbianmen corner tower. Beijing Ancient Observatory
The Beijing Ancient Observatory () is a pretelescopic observatory located in Beijing, China. The observatory was built in 1442 during the Ming dynasty, and expanded during the Qing. It received major reorganization and many new, more accurate instruments from Europeans (Jesuits) in 1644. As one of the oldest observatories in the world, the Beijing Ancient Observatory grounds cover an area of 10,000 square meters. The observatory itself is located on a wide platform on the top of a tall brick tower, an extant portion of the old Ming dynasty era city wall that once encircled Beijing. Several of the bronze astronomical instruments are on the platform, and other armillary spheres, sundials, and other instruments are located nearby at ground level.
