''The Jewish Journal (Boston North)'' is an independent, community-sponsored Jewish newspaper serving the Jewish community of Essex County, Massachusetts north of Boston, and published bi-weekly on Fridays since 1976. It is managed by a Board of Overseers representing points of view of the entire Jewish community. A grant from the Jewish Federation of The North Shore allows it to be distributed free of charge to all Jewish residents in a Beverly, Boxford, Byfield, Danvers, Essex, Georgetown, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Manchester, Marblehead, Middleton, Nahant, Newbury, Newburyport, Peabody, Rockport, Rowley, Salem, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield, Wenham, and West Newbury. Jewish residents of Amesbury, Andover, Bradford, Groveland, Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, North Andover, and Salisbury must pay a subscription fee to receive the newspaper. ''The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles'', known simply as the ''Jewish Journal'', is an independent, nonprofit community weekly newspaper serving the Jewish community of greater Los Angeles, published by TRIBE Media Corp. ''The Journal'' was established in 1985. As of 2016 it had a verified circulation of 50,000 and an estimated readership of 150,000; it is the largest Jewish weekly outside New York City. TRIBE Media Corp. also produces the monthly ''TRIBE'' magazine, distributed in Santa Barbara, Malibu, Conejo, Simi and West San Fernando Valleys. ''The Jewish Morning Journal'' ( yi, דער מארגען זשורנאל , Der Morgen Zhurnal) was a Yiddish-language publication in New York from 1901 to 1971. Early years A politically conservative, Orthodox Jewish publisher, Jacob Saphirstein, founded the ''Jewish Morning Journal'' in 1901. It was published in Yiddish, the language of the majority of eastern European Jewish immigrants who settled on the Lower East Side of New York. The paper took on a more liberal slant in 1916, when Jacob Fishman became editor, replacing Peter (Peretz) Wiernik. After resigning as editor in 1938, Fishman continued his daily column, "From Day to Day." Zionist in outlook, the ''Jewish Morning Journal'' advocated an Orthodox lifestyle, and was not published on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.
