Jewel Ackah
Jewel Ackah ( 1945 – 27 April 2018) was a Ghanaian highlife and gospel musician. He composed the lyrics of "''Arise Arise''," the party anthem of the centre-left Ghanaian political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), popularly sung to the tune of the Christian hymn, "''Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus''". He was dubbed by media pundits as the "Prince of Highlife". Early life and education Jewel Ackah was born in 1945 in Axim in the Western Region of Ghana to Emmanuel Ackah and Cecilia Dye. He was a member of the Nzema people. He had his early education at Axim Roman Catholic primary and completed his education in Takoradi in 1963. In his early career, he was a professional footballer and later worked for a shipping company called the ''Palm Line''. Axim
Axim is a coastal town and the capital of Nzema East Municipal district, a district in Western Region of South Ghana. Axim lies 64 kilometers west of the port city of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region, west of Cape Three Points. Axim has a 2013 settlement population of 27,719 people. History This area was occupied by the Nzema people. The Portuguese arrived by the early 16th century as traders. They built a prominent seaside fort, Fort Santo Antonio, in 1515. Gospel music is a traditional genre of Christian music, and a cornerstone of Christian media. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Hymns and sacred songs were often repeated in a call and response fashion, heavily influenced by ancestral African music. Joyce Akosua Twene also known as Joyce Blessing is a Ghanaian and African gospel musician. Early life and education Joyce Akosua Twene known popularly as Joyce Blessing was born to Mr Christopher Kwabena Twene and Mrs Gladys Yaa Kyewaa on 15 May at Accra, Ghana. Joyce is the fourth child of her parents. Kofi Kinaata
Martin King Arthur (born 15 April 1990) popularly known as Kofi Kinaata is a Ghanaian musician and songwriter from Takoradi. He is noted for his Fante people, Fante rap and freestyle and therefore known as the Fante Rap God (FRG). Apart from his rap prowess, he has grown into a very good singer taking the highlife genre by storm. Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is a Ghanaian highlife musician, songwriter, producer, and composer. The first musician from Ghana and the world to formally incorporate rap forms into local highlife rhythms, Ambolley created the musical genre Simigwa. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African Americans, African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. It de-emphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove (music), groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a drum kit, percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music.
