Jessy Blackburn
Tryphena Jessica "Jessy" Blackburn ( Thompson; formerly Noakes and Barton; 20 April 1894 – 14 May 1995) was a British aviation pioneer and one of the first women to fly a British monoplane. Biography Born on 20 April 1894, Cradley, West Midlands, Cradley, Worcestershire, England she was left an orphan while young. Her father, Wesley Thompson, was a doctor. He and his wife Catherline died when Blackburn was three. She was raised by her older brother Clarence and later by her sister Eugenie. Blackburn was sent to ''Ecole d'Etrangers'' in Brussels in 1910. She met her husband, the Yorkshire engineer Robert Blackburn (aviation pioneer), Robert Blackburn, in 1912 and he introduced her to his love of aviation. The couple married in 1914. The Blackburns founded Blackburn Aircraft using her inheritance. Jessy became an important asset in the sales and marketing of the company. Jessy Hendrikx (born 25 January 2002) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a forward for Belgian club Esperanza Pelt. Jessy Marcelin (born 1934) is a Chagossian musician and activist who was born in the Chagos Islands and forced to leave as part of Britain's displacement of the Chagossian people. Marcelin was born in 1934 on the atoll of Peros Banhos, part of the Chagos Archipelago. In 1970, she was forced to leave Chagos during the expulsion of the Chagossians from the archipelago, as the United Kingdom pursued the construction of a military base in what is now formally known as British Indian Ocean Territory. Marcelin was pregnant at the time of her expulsion; she is a mother of 14 children, two of whom are buried back on her native atoll. Jessy Kent-Parsons (née Usher; 1882 – 26 February 1966) was a mother and child welfare campaigner, who established a School for Mothers in Tottenham in 1912, and organised one of the first antenatal clinics in England in 1917. Life Jessy Eugenie Usher was born in Aston, Birmingham in 1882, the daughter of John Usher, a coach painter. A talented contralto, she went to the Royal College of Music at 17, and made some appearances prior to her marriage, in 1900, to Edward Kent-Parsons, a commission agent. The couple had one daughter, but Edward Kent-Parsons died in 1908, from which point she turned to social work. Kent-Parsons gained a certificate from the Sanitary Inspectors' Board, as well as the Central Midwives' Board, and obtained a Ministry of Health Visitor's Diploma. Jessy Keeffe (born 17 July 1996) is a retired Australian rules footballer who played for Brisbane in the AFL Women's competition (AFLW). She was playing for Yeronga South Brisbane in the AFL Queensland Women's League (QWAFL) when she was drafted by with the 48th and final pick in the 2017 AFL Women's draft.
