Jessica Woodworth
Jessica Hope Woodworth is a Belgian- American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Biography Woodworth studied Classic Theatre and Literature at the University of Princeton (graduated in 1993), she also holds a master's degree in Documentary Film from Stanford University (1999). In 1994 she started working at TV in Paris, then moved to Hong Kong where she acted as a producer and screenwriter for educational films and documentaries. Her thesis for Stanford, ''Urga Song'' documentary, was made in Mongolia. The film was screened at several prestigious film festivals around the world. After that, she received a Fulbright grant that she used for her next project, ''The Virgin Diaries'', shot in Morocco and premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. In 1999, while filming ''Urga Song'' in Mongolia, she met Peter Brosens, a fellow director, who was working on the third part of his 'Mongolia Trilogy'. They married in Germany in 2000. ''Altiplano'' is a 2009 Peruvian-Belgian drama film by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, starring Magaly Solier, Jasmin Tabatabai, and Olivier Gourmet. It takes places on three continents in five different languages. It tells the stories of two women in mourning and how their destinies merge. Production and background Shooting took place at locations in Belgium and Peru for 43 days, between June and October 2008. Because of extreme weather conditions at an altitude of 5,000 metres in the Peruvian Andes, the cast and crew had access to a medical team 24 hours a day. The Tartar Steppe
''The Tartar Steppe'' (), also published as ''The Stronghold'' (), is a novel by Italian author Dino Buzzati, published in 1940. The novel tells the story of a young officer, Giovanni Drogo, and his life spent guarding the Bastiani Fortress, an old, unmaintained border fortress. The work was influenced by the 1904 poem " Waiting for the Barbarians" by Constantine P. Cavafy. Stuart C. Hood translated the novel into English. The novel was ranked 29th on ''Le Monde'' 100 Books of the Century list. Plot The Tartar Steppe tells the story of Giovanni Drogo's lifelong wait for a war in which he can achieve glory. Dino Buzzati-Traverso (; 14 October 1906 – 28 January 1972) was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for ''Corriere della Sera''. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel '' The Tartar Steppe'', although he is also known for his well-received collections of short stories. Life Buzzati was born in San Pellegrino, Belluno, in his family's ancestral villa.
