Jessica Traynor
Jessica Traynor (born 1984), is an Irish poet and creative writing teacher. Biography Jessica Traynor (07/09/1984) was born in Dublin. She attended University College Dublin where she completed an MA in creative writing in 2008. Traynor worked for the Abbey Theatre in Dublin as the literary manager. She has also been the deputy director for the emigration museum, Epic. Traynor is a poet and creative writing teacher. Her first book of poetry was shortlisted for the Strong/Shine Award. Her second was an Irish Times poetry choice of 2019. Her work has been translated into Portuguese. Traynor edited a best selling anthology with Stephen Rea in 2019. The anthology was to raise funds for Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland, MASI, to call for an end to direct provision. The Abbey Theatre (), also known as the National Theatre of Ireland () is a theatre in Dublin, Ireland. First opening to the public on 27 December 1904, and moved from its original building after a fire in 1951, it has remained active to the present day. Poetry Now Award
The Poetry Now Award is an annual literary prize presented for the best single volume of poetry by an Irish poet. The €5,000 award was first given in 2005 (reduced to €2,500 in 2013) and is presented during annual Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown poetry festivals. From 2005 to 2011, it was bestowed during the Poetry Now international poetry festival (the latter event was inaugurated in 1996) which was held in March or April each year. Stephen Rea
Stephen Rea ( ; born October 31, 1946) is an Irish actor. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he began his career as a member of Dublin's Focus Theatre, and played many roles on the stage and on Irish television. He came to the attention of international film audiences in Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan's 1992 film ''The Crying Game'', and subsequently starred in many more of Jordan's films, including ''Interview with the Vampire'' (1994), '' Michael Collins'' (1996), '' Breakfast on Pluto'' (2005), and ''Greta'' (2018). He also played a starring role in the Hugo Blick 2011 TV series '' The Shadow Line''. Movement Of Asylum Seekers In Ireland
The Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) is an Irish advocacy group for those seeking international protection in Ireland, with the goals of ending direct provision and deportation. History MASI was founded in 2014 after the protests in direct provision centres to give a voice to, and advocate for, those living in direct provision and seeking asylum in Ireland. One of the founding members of MASI was Lucky Khambule. The group argues that the privatised nature of direct provision centres in Ireland results in chronic issues regarding health, hygiene, and civil and human rights of those housed there. They held their first conference in Liberty Hall, Dublin in October 2019, with a keynote from MASI spokesperson Bulelani Mfaco. ''Sunday Miscellany'' is an English-language Irish radio programme featuring new Irish writing of poetry and (mostly non-fiction) prose, broadcast on Sunday mornings on RTÉ Radio 1 since 1968. The programme does not have hosts, but contributions of writings, read by the writers are intercut with related music. Contributors are a mix of established authors and poets and novices who have submitted their written works for consideration. The standard format is pre-recorded, but frequently, versions of the programme have been recorded in front of a live audience with a chamber or full orchestra and vocalists.
