Jessica Caloza
Jessica Caloza is an American politician, serving as a member of the California State Assembly for the 52nd District since 2024. A member of the Democratic Party, she is the first Filipina elected to the California State Legislature. She also serves as the Assistant Majority Whip. Early life and education Caloza was born in Quezon City, Philippines, and immigrated to the United States as a child. She comes from a working-class background and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor's degree in international relations and ethnic studies. Caloza is the first person in her family to graduate from college in the United States. Career Caloza is a longtime public servant and started her career working as a community organizer for President Barack Obama's campaign in Virginia. Francisco "Franky" Carrillo is an American politician, who was wrongfully convicted of the 1991 murder of Donald Sarpy and served twenty years in prison before his conviction was reversed by the Los Angeles County Superior Court on March 14, 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, Carrillo currently serves on the Los Angeles County Probation Oversight Commission. Wrongful murder conviction Carrillo's conviction relied on eyewitness testimony from six people. Robert Andres Bonta (born September 22, 1972) is a Filipino and American lawyer and politician who has served as attorney general of California since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a member of the California State Assembly for the 18th district from 2012 to 2021 and as a member of the Alameda City Council from 2010 to 2012. The first Filipino American to serve in the California State Legislature, Bonta chaired the California Asian & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.
